Some places stay with you long after you leave 🇹🇷

The Turkish Riviera is one of them. Ancient ruins that have stood for millennia, turquoise waters framed by rugged mountains, food that makes every meal an occasion, and people who welcome you like you’ve known them for years.

There’s something special about this part of Turkey. One minute you’re wandering through the remains of an ancient civilisation, the next you’re swimming in a secluded bay or sitting down for a meal you wish would never end.

It’s beautiful, yes. But it’s everything around that beauty that makes you want to come back.

Türkiye, you’ve got a special place in my heart.

3 Places to visit in the WiLD SiDE of MADEiRA 🌊

On Madeira’s northeastern coast, Porto da Cruz sits between the Atlantic and dramatic volcanic mountains, with the imposing Penha d’Águia (Eagle Rock) rising above the coastline.

A place of black volcanic shores, crashing waves and green slopes dropping straight into the sea. No need for filters when the landscape does all the work.

Kabak Beach, Turkey 🇹🇷

Mountains meet the Mediterranean and the crowds start to fade away.
Hidden beneath the green slopes near Fethiye, this secluded bay is known for its pebbled shore, crystal-clear water and rugged scenery. Getting here takes a little effort, but that’s part of the appeal: no big resort strip, just steep forested hills, the sea, and a slower pace of life.

Kaputaş Beach… one of Turkey’s most iconic little beaches.

Tucked between steep limestone cliffs on the Turquoise Coast, this small cove sits between Kaş and Kalkan, with strikingly clear turquoise water and a narrow strip of golden sand. The beach is reached by a long staircase from the coastal road, but the view alone is worth the stop.

The colour of the water? Completely ridiculous.

You should visit Navarra, Spain 🇪🇸

Spain has its own little piece of the Wild West.
These are the Bardenas Reales, a semi-desert landscape in Navarra shaped by wind and water over millions of years. And Castildetierra is probably its most recognisable landmark! A lonely clay formation rising from an otherwise almost surreal landscape.

I caught it from above at both sunrise and sunset, when the low light brings out the textures, shadows and warm tones of the badlands. Same place. Completely different mood.

Fake or Real?

Not bad for an island that technically shouldn’t be there… the island was literally built to put a church on it.

Just offshore from Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks is one of the most unusual sights in the Bay of Kotor, and yes, the island is artificial.
According to tradition, in 1452 two local sailors found an icon of the Virgin Mary on a rock in the sea. The locals took it as a sign and began building an island around the rock, bringing stones and sinking old boats to create the foundations.
And they’re still adding stones today. Every 22 July, locals celebrate the Fašinada, sailing out from Perast and throwing stones around the island to continue the centuries-old tradition.

From above, it looks almost unreal! A tiny piece of land, a centuries-old church, and the dramatic mountains of the Bay of Kotor as a backdrop.

And the second island?! St. George Island (Sveti Đorđe) the natural island, home to a Benedictine abbey and church, with records of the church and monastery going back to the 12th century.
There’s also a rather dark local story: St. George is sometimes called the “Island of the Dead”, associated with a tragic love legend from Perast that reportedly inspired Swiss painter Arnold Böcklin’s famous Isle of the Dead.
