Answering the Sirens’ Call
In Greek mythology, sirens were said to call sailors from afar, drawing them toward distant shores.
Perhaps some places do the same.
Fifteen.
That was my age the first time I stood here.
Fifty-one.
That’s my age now, as I stand here once again.
The numbers had reversed.
Life had moved on.
The years in between had quietly written their own story.
Yet the sea was still there.
The island was still there.
And above it all, the stars were still crossing the night sky.
Perhaps that is why places like this never truly leave us.
They remain somewhere within us, waiting patiently until the time comes to return.
This time, beneath the Milky Way and beside my mother once again, I answered the call.
