«The following images come to life from a reportage carried out by the photographer at the iconic rock located in his homeland, Terracina, which is known as “Cappieijë dë prètë”. About 3 meters high, this place represents for him an environment strongly linked to his adolescence, as he used to spend his free time diving from it. Years later, he wanted to visit it again, driven by curiosity to observe how the new generation is experiencing it. In the works created, the photographer's memories are enclosed in the action of the dive performed by the teenagers, manifesting themselves in a present and in a completely surreal space, at the limit of the normal. The artist, through a process of creative experimentation in post-production, brings the subjects back into an altered reality, representing the place of his memories as an abstract dimension. This alteration of reality elevates the perception of the figures and visually represents the photographer's subconscious.»

Photographic Series "The Corridor of Eclipses" 2023
Silver gelatin print created using alternative photographic processes, combining photogram and Mordançage techniques.

The time of the "Corridor of Eclipses" is strange and mysterious, almost timeless, suspended between solar and lunar eclipses. This concept, described in detail in astrology, becomes a metaphor in art—reflecting a state of imbalance within a person and the world. Tragic disintegration and incredible rebirth, destruction and restoration: everything is possible during this period, which inevitably occurs twice a year.

This photographic series is my profound reflection on our world, which currently finds itself in an extended "corridor of eclipses." Despite thousands of opportunities for progress, the world plunges into senseless wars and struggles for power. Yet, I believe we will emerge from this dark corridor into the light, heralding a great renaissance for our world.

All my works are created using the unique Mordançage technique. The process of creating an image consists of three stages: generating the initial image, its disintegration and transformation, and the creation of an entirely new image. Each original piece exists as a single copy. The photographic technique does not allow for duplication.

In fact, the process itself is unpredictable and uncontrollable—it is impossible to foresee the course of the work or imagine what kind of image will emerge. The creation unfolds spontaneously; one can learn to control it slightly and boldly improvise during the process, trusting the artist's intuition.

«Over 300 families live in Phnom Penh's “Kilometer 6” commune, which is located alongside railway tracks. The families live in self-built shacks, usually consisting of a single room. The people here – some of the poorest people in the city – often run small businesses, in the form of mini-kiosks, in their community. Because of the lack of space, the residents spread out over the train tracks during the day. Every time they hear the train horns, they quickly gather up their cooking utensils, chairs, sunshades and children to clear the track. Just seconds after the freight trains have passed, the railway track once again becomes the center of life. Like many Phnom Penh families before them, the Railway Community faces eviction. The reason why they are being threatened with displacement is that the Phnom Penh authorities are planning to build a 12-meter-wide concrete road and drainage system along the railway line. Ownership of the land has been disputed ever since. For a decade now, members of the community and activists have been campaigning for their right to land and adequate housing. Steff Gruber’s documentation of the lives of the Railway Community is part of an ongoing long-term project on the landless poor communities in Cambodia.»

Subsequently, in her latest work Sissi Farassat’s reinvents what interests her most about photography, that is playing with what is visible and what takes place in our minds when looking at images.

«"Bile" is a project about my relationship with addiction to hard drugs in a specific time in my life. The series of images I try to present fit into a messy and disorienting narrative that communicates mostly on a perceptive level. It aims to be neither a condemnation nor an exaltation of them but a visual excursus about the mismanaged emotions of teenagers seeking escape from adult life.»

«The photographic series “Summer Whims” is a testament to the annual journey we undertake from Mexico to my mother-in-law’s house in the serene French countryside. Amid an atmosphere that oscillates between the tranquility and the effervescence of summer, my daughter reunites with her cousins, creating a unique family bond each summer season. What began as a casual project years ago has evolved over time to become a precious treasure in our family archive. Each image, when revisited, reminds us of the essence of photography as an intimate means to reconnect with moments that may seem ephemeral in the moment but, with the passage of time, reveal their immense value in our lives. On the other hand, this series represents a unique opportunity to explore photography in a playful and liberating way, stepping away from the more structured approaches found in other projects. Here, the camera becomes an instrument of spontaneity and freedom, capturing the essence of childhood and shared joy in the French countryside in a unique and authentic manner.»

«One Pool, Los Angeles is a project I shot for two years on the same Los Angeles, California pool. The series examined one pool's reflections on water as the light changed across days and seasons. The series is about illusion. As an Easterner, I felt dislocated, an alien in a mirage in Los Angeles. For this series, I went into that world. LA specific details locate me--the palms, the range of aquas, the sharp light. But the images are also a mirage, it's an uncertain and multidimensional subterranean world that is beautiful and transient. Getting lost in this project was a respite and I embraced that LA, shape-shifting pool. The illusion, to me, is symbolic of my experience of Los Angeles.»

«Autumn nights -I created this series while strolling the streets of Tel Aviv in the late autumn nights. This is the preferred time for a night bird like myself, I try to reveal the magic that lies over the city at night.»
