"The time has come.⠀
I climb into the car, sinking into the pied de poule Recaro seat.⠀
I buckle up and feel at home. Key in, turn on the ignition. Start.⠀
Looking at the rotated tachometer in front of me, red line is at 7,200 rpm.⠀
Since the car is not mine I force myself to shift at around 6,000 rpm .⠀
⠀
I pull out of the parking lot, and look for a road with little traffic.⠀
First gear in, the racing clutch engages low in the pedal travel, the engine reaches 5000 rpm and its sound envelopes me.⠀
This time in second gear I reach 6000 rpm, “stay calm Andrea” I tell to myself.⠀
But it’s difficult, third gear, the orange needle flies past 6500 rpm, and I’m already going way too fast for a country road.⠀

After a few more spirited passes the owner asks me to stop: “Andrea I think you got a little carried away”. ⠀
Yes he’s right. ⠀
I just found out that, although we’re not together anymore, I’m still in love with my ex 911."⠀

"I would have driven a thousand kilometers to go and test this '71 911S."⠀

Andrea () is about to drive his ex 911, but first we take a look at the car.⠀
⠀
“In addition to the sentimental aspect, in this test drive, I’m interested in the sensations that only a 911 with a racing engine can give you.⠀
When the current owner acquired the car in 2013, he took the 2.2 engine to the legendary Graziano of Renn Sport where it was given a high-protein diet, taking it to 2.5 in displacement, and throwing in new camshaft, pistons, ignition and all the best components to make it fly.⠀
Add to that a Bilstein rally setup, and tires that keep it glued to the ground and this 911 becomes a wolf dressed up as a sheep.”⠀
