Another football season officially starts today for me.
When I started taking photographs, I never imagined football would become such an important part of my work. I was interested in people, stories and journalism. I dreamed mostly about travelling, discovering different countries and documenting what I found along the way.
Then, one day, Veronica Bon and Tommaso Bianchini gave me the opportunity to join Venezia FC. That’s where this unexpected journey began.
Since then, football has taken me through promotions and relegations, Serie A victories, European nights and finals. It gave me the chance to photograph some incredible players, to work with clubs such as Venezia, Fiorentina, Chelsea, AC Milan and now Napoli.
Along the way, I reached a dream I had for years: photographing a World Cup. And with Napoli, I had the privilege of documenting the road to a Serie A title twice.
None of this was planned.
Football is a crazy environment. It gives you so much, but it also asks for a lot — especially time, energy and a big part of your life. When I first stepped onto a football pitch with a camera in 2017, I could never have imagined where that decision would take me.
Almost ten years later, I still think of myself as a photographer interested in people, stories and what happens around them. Football simply became one of the places where I found those stories.
And here we are again.
A new season. More places, more faces, more stories to document — and another chapter to be part of.
