In general the town is defined by the terraced colorful houses, built on the steep rocky coastline.

Volcanic mountain peaks. Ancient fishing villages. Bubbling hot springs. Vast, untouched landscapes. No, this isn't New Zealand, Hawaii, or the Faroe Islands. The Azores, a remote nine-island archipelago off the coast of Portugal, is an eden all its own. For decades, limited flights kept the subtropical island chain cut off from the rest of the world, but new connections are slowly opening up this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Here, 7 reasons to get there now—before everyone else does.

The islands are surprisingly accessible from the U.S.
Located 850 miles off the coast of Portugal, the Azores are far, but getting there is easier than ever thanks to Azores Airlines, which flies non-stop from Boston and Toronto straight into Ponta Delgada. Landing in a European paradise less than five hours from the East Coast? (Psst—that’s shorter than the connection to L.A.) Sign. Us. Up.

Note: At time of filming, Delta routes were still in effect, but are now no longer active. Azores Airlines still makes connects from the U.S.

Anyone can dive into its yachting culture

Yachts making the Transatlantic passage between the U.S. (or the Caribbean) and Europe often make a rest stop in the Azores. A visit to the marina in Horta, on the island of Faial, offers a fascinating look at the islands’ yachting culture: the jetty is like an open-air gallery, covered in murals painted by past crews. Mingle with captains and their ilk at the famous yachtsmen’s bar, Peter’s Cafe Sport, where sailing flags from around the world hang from the rafters. Prefer to set sail around the islands yourself? Pure Sail offers full-day and weekly charters that anchor near empty beaches and bays teeming with dolphins.....

The Avenue of the Baobabs, or Alley of the Baobabs, is a prominent group of Grandidier's baobabs (Adansonia grandidieri) lining the dirt road between Morondava and Belon'i Tsiribihina in the Menabe region of western Madagascar.

The best place to see one of these species, the Adansonia granddieri, is the Avenue des Baobabs. This is a large region with the majestic tree in abundance, and a sacred baobab with offerings around it showing the significance of the trees. There are also two that have become intertwined, and are known as Les Baobabs Amoureux. If you arrive at sunrise or sunset, the view is striking, and good photos are a guarantee.

The nearest town to the Avenue of the Baobabs is Morondava. The area was the centre of the Sakalava kingdom, and the tombs here are spectacular and beautiful. It is now the centre of a rice-growing and ostrich-farming area, and is popular as a seaside resort with a laidback and friendly atmosphere....

Antarctica, fifth in size among the world’s continents. Its landmass is almost wholly covered by a vast ice sheet. Lying almost concentrically around the South Pole, Antarctica—the name of which means “opposite to the Arctic”—is the southernmost continent, a circumstance that has had momentous consequences for all aspects of its character. It covers about 5.5 million square miles (14.2 million square km), and would be essentially circular except for the outflaring Antarctic Peninsula, which reaches toward the southern tip of South America (some 600 miles [970 km] away), and for two principal embayments, the Ross Sea and the Weddell Sea. These deep embayments of the southernmost Pacific and Atlantic oceans make the continent somewhat pear-shaped, dividing it into two unequal-sized parts. The larger is generally known as East Antarctica because most of it lies in east longitudes. The smaller, wholly in west longitudes, is generally called West Antarctica. East and West Antarctica are separated by the approximately 2,000-mile- (3,200-km-) long Transantarctic Mountains. Whereas East Antarctica consists largely of a high ice-covered plateau, West Antarctica consists of an archipelago of mountainous islands covered and bonded together by ice.

No place on Earth compares to this vast white wilderness of elemental forces: snow, ice, water, rock. Antarctica is simply stunning.

Adventure :
Antarctica’s surreal remoteness, extreme cold, enormous ice shelves and mountain ranges, and myriad exotic life forms invariably challenge you to embrace life fully. Everyone – scientist, support worker, government official and tourist – who comes to this isolated continent, must ‘earn’ it, whether by sea voyage or flight. Ice and weather, not clocks and calendars, determine the itinerary and the timetable of all travel here. Today, it’s even possible for visitors to climb Antarctic peaks or kayak icy waters. But there is nothing quite like the craggy crevasses of a magnificent glacier or the sheer expanse of the polar ice cap.

Wildlife :
Preserved by the Antarctic Treaty, Antarctica is home to some of the world’s most extraordinary species. Some, such as the enormous whales, migrate from afar, while others, including the Weddell seal and emperor penguin, remain close to the continent. Millions of seabirds skim the Southern Ocean, the world’s most abundant, and species such as albatrosses and petrels circle the waters. Wildlife is generally unafraid of humans: visitors usually elicit no more than an uninterested yawn from seals and penguins focused on their young.

History :
The names of explorers and their sovereigns and benefactors are written on Antarctica’s shores. Renowned explorers from Cook to Amundsen and Scott all tried to pe*****te this vast, mysterious land: each with varying degrees of success. Visitors can follow in their footsteps and imagine what it was like to forge through the pack ice on a creaking wooden boat or to haul sledges across the polar plateau. Some of the historic huts actually remain, preserved frozen in rime ice, to tell the story of adventures long past.

Inspiration :
Antarctica possesses an unnameable quality. Call it inspiration, call it grandeur…it is simply the indescribable feeling of being a small speck in a vast, harshly beautiful land. A land where striated ice towers float among geometric pancake ice, literally untouched mountains rear from marine mist, and wildlife lives, year in and year out, to its own rhythms, quite apart from human concerns. To let our minds soar in a place nearly free of humankind’s imprint: this is magic.

The Guadalevín River flows all the way through the city, separating it into two and creating dramatic landscapes. During the Reconquest of Spain by the Catholic monarchs, the city of Ronda was the last to fall because of the cliffs.

Ronda is a city located in the Spanish territory of Málaga. It is positioned about 62 miles (100 kilometers) west from the city of Málaga and is neighbored by the Andalusia region. The city is located on a mountainous area of an enormous outcropped rock approximately 750 meters above sea level.

This old-fashioned city is one of the leading tourist attraction spots in Spain because of its combination of picturesque and historic views. The central sights of the city can be effortlessly explored by foot.

The “old town” is situated towards the northern side of Ronda and can be covered as a one-day expedition from the Costa del Sol. However, as a traveler you may also want to visit the Pueblo Blanco also known as the White Villages, which can be explored by extending your trip by a day or two. September is the finest time to visit the city because of Corridas Goyescas – the bullfighting festival and Feria de Pedro Romero – the Spanish Fair.

Other notable places to visit in Ronda include Plaza de Toros – the famous bullring, La Casa del Ray Moro – the water mine and garden, the resorted 14th century Arab Baths, the New Bridge and the historic museum called the Palacio de Mondragón.

WHITEHAVEN BEACH IS BEST KNOWN for its fine white sands and clear blue waters — together, they create some of the most sought-after beach scenes on the planet.

Not only that, but they combine to make Whitehaven Beach one of the most photographed beaches in Australia. Check out this gallery of 11 amazing photos of Australia’s Whitehaven Beach to see what the buzz is about.

Whitehaven Beach is a 7 km stretch along Whitsunday Island, Australia. The island is accessible by boat, seaplane & helicopter from Airlie Beach, as well as Hamilton Island. It lies across from Stockyard Beach, better known as Chalkie's Beach, on Haslewood Island. The beach is known for its crystal white silica sands and turquoise coloured waters. The beach has barbeque and camping facilities.

The beach was named and discovered in 1879 by Staff Commander EP Bedwell. 'Whitehaven' was one of the many names, from the then English county of Cumberland, which Bedwell brought to the area. It followed James Cook's 1770 naming of the island group, the Cumberland Islands.

Georgie from Airlie, will tell all who gather and listen, that the beach's sand may have been used to make the glass used in the Hubble Space Telescope in the 1970s. However NASA has not yet verified this claim made by Georgie. They say that a resident from Airlie Beach is not an academic source .

The beach was awarded Queensland's Cleanest Beach in Keep Australia Beautiful's 2008 Clean Beach Challenge State Awards. In July 2010, Whitehaven Beach was named the top Eco Friendly Beach in the world by CNN.com. Dogs are not permitted on the beach and cigarette smoking is prohibited.

Whitehaven Beach is known for its bright white sands, which consist of 98% pure silica. Local rocks do not contain silica so it has been suggested that the sands were brought to the beach by prevailing sea currents over millions of years.

Unlike regular sand, the sand on Whitehaven Beach does not retain heat making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day. This sand is also very fine, and can damage electronic equipment such as telephones and cameras, although it is good at polishing up jewellery.
