Alberto Di Gangi is a retired amateur photographer born in Florence (Italy) on March 22nd 1936

He starts taking photographs at the age of 17 and passionately nurtures this activity until 1990, when he suddenly stops shooting, gets rid of all the equipment and dismantles the darkroom he has built and in which he developed all his films and printed his images.

From 1953 and until 1990 he then uses only Leicaflex cameras, Kodak Tri-X 400 films or Kodachrome slides. The images he creates are strongly characterized by coarse grain and very contrasted black and white tones, obtained by both pulling the films and editing the images when printing. When he uses color instead, he takes full advantage of the chromatic range of the Kodachrome slide to obtain richly saturated images, with luminous hues.

During the 60s and 70s he also films 8mm movies. Some bits of these films, edited by his son (and photographer as well) Ale Di Gangi, can be found on Vimeo; here is an example: https://vimeo.com/326201
