BPA 2026 Shortlist Feature: “Breathe with Nature” 🏆

Story Behind the Shot:
A solitary yak stands silhouetted against the last light of day above Kyanjin Gompa in Nepal’s Langtang Valley, with a sea of cloud rolling through the mountains below.
Having spent several days photographing the landscape and watching the way the evening clouds moved through the valley, I had an idea for a sunset landscape shot. As I reached the edge of the village, this yak appeared on the ridge at exactly the right moment and paused against the horizon, looking out into the valley along with me.
Working in the last available light meant balancing a huge contrast between the bright sunset and the darkening mountains and valley. I wanted to hold onto the texture in the clouds and distant ridges while keeping the yak as a clean, graphic silhouette.
But beyond the technical side of making the image, it was simply one of those moments where everything seemed to fall into place. Sitting above the clouds, beneath the fading light and surrounded by the Himalayas, I felt completely immersed in the landscape.
Alone, but not lonely. I sat and breathed with nature. 🙏🏼 - A moment that will surely stay with me forever!
Having spent time in Nepal, it’s heartbreaking to see the devastation the country is facing now. My thoughts are with everyone affected by the recent floods. 🇳🇵❤️
