So thrilled and honored to be a part of the Photo Vogue Festival 2019
・・・
‘A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM. Deconstructing Stereotypes’, the exhibition curated by and for the upcoming fourth edition of , at from November 14th to 17th.
Today we introduce , who is one of the artists on display selected by an internationally acclaimed jury; here’s a sneak peek at Supranav’s work, ‘Eros and its discontents’. About the project - This project explores the lives and desires of individuals from the LGBTQI+ community living in India. These photos see struggles of identity, hopes and dreams, pleasure, pains and rejections. The people in my images are treading a psychological minefield. Working with these people I find so much solace in the written works of Plato, Freud and Jung. These fields are crisscrossed with complexities that arise out of a religious, conservative, and homophobic Indian culture that is quick to marginalize and discriminate. The photographs of this body of work are witness to this subjugated community; they document the crest and trough of these lives. Talking with my subjects is important. Hearing their stories, and allowing them to be heard, it’s clear that as a q***r person in India it’s hard to complete school, get a college education, or a good job. And worse, many who are openly q***r express feelings of guilt caused by embarrassment to parents and siblings. Fearing social boycott, a lot of gay and bisexuals will suppress the truth and live lives lying to themselves and those they love.
