In April 2023, I and BN Singh set out on an impromptu photography trip to Pulicat, a well-known spot for bird lovers. Our friend Ganesh Jayaraman had given us some helpful tips about the best times to visit, places to stay. Armed with this advice, we started our journey, eager to capture the natural beauty of Pulicat and its diverse birdlife.

We were a tad late in the season and many shorebirds had already migrated back to their breeding grounds, but we were still lucky to spot several species in their moulting breeding plumage. The bright colors of these birds provided fantastic opportunities for photography. We were particularly captivated by the graceful Lesser and Greater Flamingoes, which made for stunning subjects.

What was initially planned as a two-day trip extended to four days as we explored more of Pulicat's diverse landscapes. Each day brought new surprises as we navigated the serene surroundings. Our boatman, Yuvaraj, played a crucial role in our trip, guiding us to the best spots.
