Aadi Vedan (or Karkidaka Vedan) is a ritualistic folk art form from North Malabar, Kerala, performed by children during the monsoon month of Karkidakam (July-August) to ward off diseases and bring prosperity. Representing Lord Shiva and Parvati in hunter/tribal forms, they visit houses, dancing to the beats of a drum to cleanse homes of negative energy.
