They were in abundance. All over the backyards. All around us. Up and over the trees. Twinkled and sparkled like stars.
As kids, whenever me and my cousins visited our ancestral home at Udayanapuram, Kerala, we used to run behind the fireflies, catch hold of them gently, hide them in our tiny little hands to get a closer look, be in awe, put them in our shirt pockets to prank others saying we are super-powerful beings et al...
After years, this time when I went there, I almost did everything of what I just said, but alone.
Later I thought I should photograph them, who juggle around in darkness, fascinate us, make us think and realize that small things are the most beautiful things and makes us believe that this world is a place so beautiful.
Note: fireflies exist only in places which is oxygen rich & less polluted . Light is produced as a result of some reactions called bioluminescence. And this light produced is mainly to attract for mating. Google to know more!
