The bar-headed goose (Anser indicus) is a goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far south as peninsular India. It lays three to eight eggs at a time in a ground nest. It is known for the extreme altitudes it reaches when migrating across the Himalayas.

One of the most common and smallest owl seen in our backyards - Spotted Owlet.
Spotted owls are nocturnal, sit-and-wait predators.

They often hunt from a perch and swoop or pounce on prey, or may take arboreal prey from tree boles and limbs.
They do not build their own nests, instead making use of cavities found in trees, deadwood, and snags, and the sites of abandoned raptor or squirrel nests. These birds play an important role in the food chain of old growth forests. The owls depend on a healthy diverse ecosystem for survival.

Indian Pitta - is a small bird with a stubby tail. They are brilliantly colored with bright green wings and back and a golden yellow breast. The head is yellow with black bands running the length of the head from beak to neck in the center and across each eye. The neck under the beak appears lighter yellow or white. The rump is red and the tail is blue.

A Jungle Nightjar well camouflaged in the branches of the tree. Thanks to its brown and black tree-bark-like plumage, the nightjar is hard to see during the daytime when it fades into the background. This plumage is especially important for the female as they are a ground-nesting bird. Due to their elusive nocturnal habits, nightjars have been the basis for many myths and legends. While you may be lucky to see a nightjar silhouetted against the sky at dusk as it searches for insects, you are much more likely to hear one. The male has a unique ‘churring’ call which can contain up to 1900 notes a minute!

View of the Lost Lake inside the Asola Forest. Not a natural lake, but rain water filled deserted excavation site.

Though, it is a beautiful site, look at what unregulated excavation of Aravalli can lead to. After the site was deserted following the Supreme Court ban on excavation in the Aravalli, this lake was formed.
