My extreme love for cinema comes from my childhood. I spent days and nights listening to stories of my dadaji’s printing press in Bikaner, Rajasthan. One of the things that was printed there was the precious movie ticket.

I grew up hearing about how my grandfather would personally deliver them to the local cinema hall with his two sons — my father and his younger brother .

Papa would often talk about his favourite movie “Cinema Paradiso,” as it reminded him of his childhood. Like the lead character in the film, my father too watched portions of several movies through the projection rooms of these cinema halls in Bikaner. He was so fascinated by the cinema hall gatekeeper’s job because that man got paid to watch movies all day, that he too wanted to become one when he grew up. Instead, he became a political cartoonist.

My love for minimalism and the colour black also comes from his black and white cartoons and how he only wore black.

So, I decided to reach out to some of my favourite actors, and actor friends, to photograph them in black.
This will be an ongoing series that I had started with a photo of my father on his birthday a few years ago.

A special-special thanks to all these wonderful people for sparing time from their very busy schedule for me. ♥️♥️
