Holi is rooted in Hindu mythology, particularly the legend of Prahlada and Holika. According to the story, the demon king Hiranyakashipu wanted to kill his son Prahlada, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. His sister Holika, immune to fire, sat with Prahlada in a blazing pyre. However, due to divine intervention, she burned while Prahlada remained unharmed, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The night before Holi, people light bonfires, known as Holika Dahan, to commemorate this event.

Another popular legend is that of Radha and Krishna, where Lord Krishna playfully applied colors to Radha’s face, giving birth to the tradition of throwing colors.
