Hoolock gibbons
These are the only apes found in India. Its range extends into seven states covering the seven northeastern states of India. The species are protected in India in the Hollongapar Gibbon sanctuary, which support 125 Individuals. This sanctuary is about 110 kms from Kaziranga. when we planned the trip, we did read some posts about them being sighted in Kaziranga. So when our guide said that he is positive about being able to see them in the Burapahar zone of Kaziranga we were excited & hoped we could see at least one. But, we could see 3 of them 2 males & 1 female. Our guide said that there are about 2 families comprising of 8 individuals in this area. So, we were lucky enough to spot & shoot the 2 animals that are seen in the wild only in this part of India - the Rhino & the Hoolock Gibbons.

Went on a 2-day visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam with my colleague Sreejith P T . It took 6 hours to reach Kaziranga from Guwahati. but it was worth iyt. We had booked the package through & a naturalist & guide took us for 4 safaris covering all the 4 zones of the Kaziranga National park namely - the Eastern zone, Central zone, Western zone & Burhapahar. Was fortunate enough to see & photograph 4 out of the big 5 of Kaziranga viz. Rhino, elephant, wild buffalo & the hog/swamp deer. The only one which we did not have an opportunity to shoot was the tiger. We were near it & could feel its presence through the frantic` alarm calls of the monkeys. We saw it as a shadow passing through the bushes but could not get a shot of it.
