I visited Ladakh back in 2010, back when the number of tourists was slightly less than 80,000. Today, over 3 lakh tourists visit Leh and other destinations in Ladakh. I can’t begin to imagine the impact this must entail on the local infrastructure and ecosystem. Every water bottle that is consumed will end up in a landfill near Leh, each and every packet of food will end up with the same fate. Moreover, to bring packaged food and water to Ladakh, it must be imported from hundreds of kms away if not thousands, this has a major carbon footprint. If you have plans to visit this fragile ecosystem, please be considerate and avoid consuming bottled water and packaged foods. We can now either be lazy and perish, or transform our lifestyles and survive and hopefully flourish.

There are 2 paths ‘humanity’ can take after the COVID chaos is over. One path is Business-as-usual where we continue the way we led our lives before all this ever happened. In these past couple weeks, we all have witnessed nature taking over and human’s after a long time are losing their control over the environment, we are symbolically chained and literally confined to our spaces. In these days/weeks we have seen what were once dirty rivers, flowing clean, we are now seeing mountain ranges from cities after decades. Nature has shown us time and again that we are NOTHING, and it doesn’t need us...we NEED nature to survive. And this is the other path, where we start to respect our surroundings, these times are showing us, what our world needs be, and this is the other path we must take if we need to survive.
Mother Nature has put us all on TIME OUT so to speak, take this time to introspect.

If I asked you to visualise what would look like, what would you imagine it to be?

While this is a slightly complex photograph with multiple layers and elements, it comes quite close to the image I’ve always had. Experienced this amazing moment at sometime back.... :)

While this certainly is a calm and peaceful location, what surrounds is an astonishingly ignorant reality. Reality that is full of trash and garbage. These human traces are a result of the rampant unsustainable tourism and lack of waste management mechanisms. What shook me was that some locals didn’t seem to bother about the litter perhaps owing to no waste management services nearby. The problem it seems is more deep rooted than I previously imagined. This is the bitter truth of social media abstraction, the side that no one wants to deal with. Swipe right to see that very reality.

What a beautiful union between the , , and . I will never forget my first and only visit to the magnificent , it may have surrendered to the rampant commercialization and but we can never take away it’s grandeur. Travel responsibly, there is only 1 of it.

I think has to be one of the most visited in and while it is so popular it’s extremely gorgeous too :) What’s most incredible about it is that you can see the water fall from all sides :) It’s especially beautiful if you go behind it and view the Atlantic through the waterfall, its just breath taking. This country is nothing short of Magic.
P.S. Try to find the human in the photograph :)

"It is very good to recite the mantra Om mani padme hum, but while you are doing it, you should be thinking on its meaning, for the meaning of the six syllables is great and vast... The first, Om symbolizes the practitioner's impure body, speech, and mind; it also symbolizes the pure exalted body, speech, and mind of a Buddh" - Lhamo Dondrub

I was extremely excited to visit this high altitude lake since couple years. As we hiked through the forest and over meadows, the excitement kept growing in anticipation of what was to be discovered ahead. Surprisingly, I was not surprised, and it wasn’t one of the most magnificent moments of my life. The presence of this ugly green fence just ruined everything. To not be allowed to go near the water for religious purposes of course and restricting interaction to only looking at it from a distance was a let down. I hope we don’t do this with all our lakes, I hope ‘travellers’ are more responsible so such measures need not be taken.

Today on , let this photograph not be a grim reminder of what will be, instead, let it be a hope of what should not be. Let’s all pledge to reduce our footprint’s and preserve the very essence of life on . Try not to save the Earth, it needs no saving. Try to save yourself, your family and your friends from the wrath that and shall bring upon on “IF” we do not change our lifestyles.

I don't usually post my own photograph, but getting back to hiking life after years of an injured knee and back was one of the best feelings ever lately. Looking forward to many more hikes and treks :) You can never conquer mountains, they conquer our minds. .
Thank you for the wonderful photograph :)

“If we change the preposition, and consider that global warming is happening for us - an atmospheric transformation that inspires us to change and reimagine everything we make and do - we begin to live in a different world. We take 100 percent responsibility and stop blaming others. We see global warming not as an inevitability but as an invitation to build, innovate, and effect change, a pathway that awakens creativity, compassion, and genius. THIS IS NOT A LIBERAL AGENDA, NOR IS IT A CONSERVATIVE ONE. THIS IS THE HUMAN AGENDA.” - Paul Hawken.
