Every day is a Woman's Day here...

Meet the Pahari Women- strong, tough, hardworking, high-spirited, independent and also, the most humble, down-to-earth, soft-spoken, and tolerant.

After living in Himachal, exploring it, knowing it and its people, it feels good to see how empowered the Pahari women are.

From sunrise to sunset, and more - a day in the life of the pahari women is never easygoing. They do every kind of work no matter how muscular or athletic it is.

They’re up before the sun, and work all day, in their homes, in the farms, grazing cattle, tending to their children and their men, and the family’s livestock. And they do this high in the Himalayas, up and down shingly hill-paths, carrying on their backs heavy loads of produce and fodder.

They are respected here for the work they do, their contribution not only in household chores but in financial, educational, political, and in business. They are given freedom.

Himachali men consider women as the backbone of Himachal which is truly respectable...!

It has been seen as well as believed that Deodar forests or Devadaru trees had been the favorite place of living for ancient Indian sages along with their families who were in great devotion to the Hindu God, Lord Shiva.

Also, at the time of Britishers in India & Pakistan, the wood of this sacred Deodar tree had been widely used in making barracks, public buildings, railway cars & canals, bridges.

Hidimba, not Durga, is worshipped in Manali...!

While Hindus across the nation are worshiping the nine avataras of goddess Durga during Navaratra, people in Manali worships Hidimba, the demon.

As per the priests of the temple, she is a manifestation of godess Durga and not a demon. The royal family of kullu considers her as their great grandmother.

The famous weeklong Kullu Dussehra starts and ends in the presence of Hidimba.
