: You somehow picked two sides of me perfectly — the one that lives for potatoes and the one that pauses to admire the little wonders around. This feels less like a gift and more like you really seeing me.

Perfect combo for a food lover & photographer — cook, click, and maybe chase a few moths in between 📸🥔

Thanks a lot again ma

Raorchestes resplendens, commonly known as the resplendent shrub frog

Shot on Samsung S23Ultra

🌿 General Information

Scientific Name: Raorchestes resplendens

Family: Rhacophoridae (tree frogs and shrub frogs)

Common Name: Resplendent shrub frog

Described in: 2010 by Biju & Bossuyt

📍 Habitat & Distribution

Endemic to the Western Ghats, India.

Found only at the summit of Anamudi, the highest peak in South India (Kerala, Eravikulam National Park).

Lives in montane grasslands at elevations around 2,000 meters.

It is a micro-endemic species (restricted to a very small region).

🎨 Appearance

One of the most strikingly colored frogs in the Western Ghats.

Bright reddish-orange body with small black specks.

Dorsal skin is shagreened and rough, giving it a bumpy texture.

Size: 2–3.5 cm (small frog).

🧬 Behavior & Ecology

Arboreal (tree-dwelling) and nocturnal.

Unlike many frogs, Raorchestes species do not have a free-swimming tadpole stage.

Instead, they exhibit direct development: eggs hatch directly into miniature frogs.

Males produce a distinctive call, especially during the monsoon season.

⚠️ Conservation Status

Listed as Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List.

Reasons:

Extremely restricted distribution.

Habitat disturbance from tourism and climate change.

Protected within Eravikulam National Park, but remains highly vulnerable.

✨ Unique Fact

This frog is considered a “flagship species” for high-altitude frog conservation in the Western Ghats, because of its beauty and rarity.

NEMAM VILLAGE

The spectacular colouring that made the bird such a commodity is worn by the males during the breeding season. Referred to as its ‘nuptial plumage’, the bright red attracts females, which are predictably dull to look at, but have the same beautiful red beak and cute white speckles.

Unlike many other species of birds, where the males are brilliantly adorned and the females are plain, the red strawberry finch’s signature look is only temporary. Once the breeding season is over, the male will take on a more modest look, retaining its red feathers only along its rump.

Wasp Nest

REDMINOTE10PRO & 25 MM MACRO LENS

The larvae of wasps resemble maggots, and are adapted for life in a protected environment; this may be the body of a host organism or a cell in a nest, where the larva either eats the provisions left for it or, in social species, is fed by the adults. Such larvae have soft bodies with no limbs, and have a blind gut.
