Cuttack,the city is famous for its Silver Filigree works. There were many Silver Filigree Medha’s across the city with beautiful decorations are worshiped in respective Puja Pandal’s every year.

The Chandi Medha was first introduced at the Choudhury Bazaar puja pandal where 300 kilogrammes of silver were used to decorate the pandal in 1956 in Cuttack," Biswanath De, a 58-year-old artisan of Cuttack told. "Filigree work of Cuttack is also known as Tarakasi.

( festival of the unmarried girls - the potential mothers )
This ritual of celebrating the menstrual cycle of Mother Earth through Raja festival is an acknowledgement of the fact that the society had no taboo regarding the menstruation of women in past days. It was treated as normal in the society where today women are kept in segregated place during their periods and are not allowed to enter a temple treating them impure.
As a message to society, this Raja festival, has a name Raja meaning menstruation which is often kept secret in many societies, leads to a greater acceptance of genuine woman issues.
