IGP Kashmir Directs All Police Stations to Go SMART: Digital Beat Policing to Be Strengthened Across Kashmir
Srinagar, October 17: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Shri Sujit Kumar Singh, chaired a conference on SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing on Friday, directing all police stations across Kashmir Zone to adopt modern, technology-driven and citizen-centric policing practices.
The conference was attended by Range DIGs, District SSPs, Additional SSPs, Zonal SSPs, DySPs and Station House Officers (SHOs) from across the Kashmir Zone.
In line with the vision and directions of the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, the IGP stressed that SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing must become an integral part of the daily functioning of every police station to ensure efficient, transparent, accountable and citizen-friendly services.
Highlighting the five fundamental principles of SMART Policing, he explained that it stands for Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Techno-savvy and Trained.
He emphasised that the concept must go beyond policy documents and be reflected in the conduct, working culture and public service delivery of every police station.
Focus on Digital Beat Policing
The IGP directed all SHOs to institutionalise Digital Beat Policing in their respective jurisdictions. Beat Officers were instructed to conduct regular field visits, interact meaningfully with local residents and ensure that police services reach every citizen at the grassroots level.
The initiative will focus on regular public outreach, updating beat-level information on digital platforms, faster service delivery, clear accountability of Beat Officers, stronger community participation and the adoption of modern policing tools and professional skills.
Observing that police stations are the primary point of contact between the police and the public, the IGP stressed that they must remain accessible, responsive and equipped with modern technology.
Supervisory officers were directed to personally monitor implementation and ensure visible results on the ground.
“Our objective is to make every Police Station in Kashmir Zone SMART and citizen-centric, where technology strengthens accountability and police services reach every citizen with dignity,” the IGP Kashmir said.
All District Police Heads were directed to ensure effective implementation across the Kashmir Zone, with particular emphasis on technology-driven service delivery, beat-level public engagement and accountability.
Kashmir Zone Police reiterated its commitment to building a modern, responsive and future-ready policing system.
