An Idol Story.
The Navaratri celebration is known by different names in different parts of India. It is Durga Puja of Bengal, Dussehra of Bombay and the Saraswati Puja and Ayudha Puja of the south.
In Kerala and in some parts of Karnataka three days, Ashtami, Navami and Vijay Dashami of Sharada Navaratri are celebrated as Saraswathi Puja in which books are worshiped; Along with which 'Kolu vaipu - Arrangement of the doll in Navaratri' is practiced. The dolls are made of paper mashes, plaster or other materials. These dolls will be in the form of some sets like marriage scenes, Dasavathara or some incidents of Mahabharata/Ramayana, or other social events. Even themes or current political or social events can be found in some houses. The dolls will be displayed in steps made especially so that each step will be at the back of the lower one but at a higher level.
