HÜRTGEN FOREST, GERMANY. 1944.
This film is a fictional story set against the background of a very real battle.
The Battle of Hürtgen Forest became one of the bloodiest and most brutal campaigns fought by American forces on the Western Front during World War II.
Dense forest. Mud. Mines. Artillery. German bunkers hidden among the trees. Soldiers often fought without knowing what was waiting only metres ahead.
In November 1944, the U.S. 28th Infantry Division fought desperately around Vossenack, Kommerscheidt and Schmidt. Entire units were shattered in the fighting. On November 8, German forces reported capturing 133 surrounded American soldiers southwest of Schmidt.
Our character, Sean O’Callaghan, and the rescue shown in this film are fictional.
The battlefield was not.
This is our interpretation of what one human story from that hell could have looked like.
