Between weathered branches and dappled leaves, the burst of red and white from this Great Spotted Woodpecker emerges like a living brushstroke against the woodland canvas.

In moments like these, the quiet beauty of nature feels less like a place and more like a story unfolding before us. 🌿🐦✨

The Alchemist 🐝 📸

A brief, weightless pause frozen in time along a quiet summer riverbank. This frame captures a wild bumblebee hovering mid-air, milliseconds away from dropping its landing gear onto the pink, slipper-shaped bloom of a wild Himalayan Balsam. 🌸

Surrounded by deep, enveloping woodland shadows, the natural light catches the delicate blur of the insect’s wings and the fine, pollen-dusted textures of its frame, transforming a routine moment of micro-foraging into a dramatic visual study of balance and instinct.

Between Light and Water. 📸

A Grey Heron quietly leaving the riverside after either a morning feed or coming up empty handed.

Nevertheless these predatory birds have extreme patience. Often standing still in place for up to an hour or more at a time waiting for the perfect time to strike.

A bit like myself waiting to take this shot. 💁🏻‍♂️

Peaceful Isolation 😌🏡

Very Happy to have my photo below featured in the Goresbridge Calendar for 2026.

An isolated home by the river surrounded by beautiful woodland gives a sense of peaceful living and also portrays how isolated this home is from others.

Just a beautiful location 📍wouldn’t mind living here myself 🤔

💬 Would you live here?👇🏻

Brown Hawker Dragonfly 👀

🧐The brown hawker pictured below appears to be a male and in general the Brown Hawker is a large dragonfly with a body length of 73 mm (2.9 in). The body is brown marked with yellow stripes in the thorax and the wings are tinged brown. They start out life as a nymph underwater, through metamorphosis they transform into what we see today.

The males have small markings of blue and yellow and are noticeably waisted, and the females have small yellow markings.

🌈🍀Dragonflies are often seen as a general and cultural symbol. They are associated with transformation, change and new beginnings and are also linked to good luck, happiness and prosperity.

When Organic Meets Constructed 🌿🚧

I set out along the Borris Viaduct trail that day, hoping to capture some quiet nature moments — a few close-up macro shots from the woodland beneath the viaduct.

A handful of frames later, satisfied with what I’d found, I stumbled upon this scene. At first glance, nothing extraordinary… until it began showing its story rather than telling it.

The viaduct walkway is getting an extension where the old railway once ran — but what caught me wasn’t the machinery or the progress, it was a meeting of two worlds. Steel and soil, motion and stillness, progress and patience.

It was the way nature and construction blended so seamlessly, the scene forming its own composition — framed, balanced, and perfectly timed.

Eurasian Wren 📸

The Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) or northern wren is a very small insectivorous bird and the only member of the wren family found in the Old World, specifically in Eurasia and Africa (Maghreb).

In Europe, it is commonly known simply as the wren. It has a very short tail which is often held erect, a short neck and a relatively long thin bill.

It is russet brown above, paler buff-brown below and has a cream buff supercilium. The sexes are alike.

The sika deer (Cervus nippon), also known as the northern spotted deer or the Japanese deer, is a species of deer native to much of East Asia and introduced to other parts of the world. Previously found from northern Vietnam in the south to the Russian Far East in the north.

It was overhunted to the brink of extinction in the 19th century. Protection laws were enacted in the mid-20th century, leading to a rapid recovery of their population from the 1950s to the 1980s.

The photo below 👀👇 is of a Male(Stag) Sika deer photographed in Jenkinstown Wood, Co. Kilkenny.
