After a whole summer spent among Vikings, swords, shields and people looking like they had just stepped out of the 9th century… we’re finally back in the present day. 😄

This time, Ilona and her very first photo session with us.

A little stress and uncertainty at the beginning, then more and more confidence, ease and simply being herself. Those are probably the moments I enjoy capturing most.

Magnus Viking Association – GRANDE FINALE. 😄

For the final chapter, we saved what we probably enjoy photographing most – the people.

After two days of combat, demonstrations, camp life and all the controlled chaos around it, it was time for portraits. Some posed, some caught in the quieter moments in between, when someone stopped being a fighter, organiser or participant for a moment and simply stood in front of the camera.

Faces, characters, expressions, clothing and the people who made Magnus what it was across those two days.

This is the final chapter of our photographic story from the event. It took us a while to get here… but at least we really did save the finale for last. :D

Magnus Viking Association – DAY TWO

Back for another day. 😄

Day Two felt a little different.

More combat, more movement, more shields flying around, but also plenty of those quieter moments happening around the battlefield – conversations, families, children, familiar faces, small details and the general chaos of a living history camp in full swing.

By this point everyone seemed properly settled into the weekend, which made the whole place feel even more alive.

This brings our main coverage of the Magnus event almost to an end.

One final chapter is STILL WAITING – a portrait selection from across both days. 😄

MAGNUS – DAY ONE, PART TWO.
Still Day One. Yes, apparently it refused to fit into just one post. 😄
The second part brings more combat, portraits, camp life and all those smaller moments happening around the main action.
That is probably what I enjoy most about photographing events like Magnus: the fights are only part of the story. The conversations, laughter, preparations, pauses and people in between are what make the whole thing feel alive.
And this still isn’t all of Day One. 😄

MAGNUS Viking Association – DAY ONE, PART ONE.
Finally. 😄
The first part of our photographs from the first day at Magnus.
A mixture of people, camp life, demonstrations, portraits, preparations and the first moments of combat – exactly the kind of controlled chaos that makes these events worth coming back to with a camera.
There is still a lot more from Day One to come. And then, of course, there is Day Two.
So this is only the beginning. Yes, we know. It was a while ago. 😄

Kukawica at Ancestral Nest.

Traditional music, white singing, movement and a very distinctive presence throughout the day at Swords Castle.
Their outdoor performance brought energy and colour to the festival, while the quieter group portraits and a few moments inside the castle chapel showed a completely different side of the same story.
A small selection from a much larger set.

A huge thank you to Polonica Eire and Art Janka for bringing such wonderful music and performers to Ireland and making them part of Ancestral Nest.
