A surprise visitor inside a squirrel feeder. This woodmouse must have spent a long time chewing an entrance hole through the perspex. He gorged himself on the sunflower and pumpkin seeds, then started on the hazelnuts. Unfortunately, he had not chewed an escape hole that was in reach.
He was fat and happy, stuck in a dry box, until we let him loose.
The hole has been fixed, made rodent proof, well until he figures out that the wood is softer than the perspex.

Long Eared Owl, perched at 11 p.m., 26th May 2026.
About 200 metres from this position is a long line of old oak trees, thick with ivy. If you listen at dusk, two or three long eared owl chicks can be heard calling for food. It gets very noisy !
The chicks call is described as sounding like a squeaky gate, a very good description.

A Sika Stag with antlers in velvet, just starting to grow. Visiting the fields at the top of the farm. We frequently see hoof prints in the mud all over the farm but rarely capture the deer on camera.
