*Accident reveal*
First, though.
Frida, your ear is blocking the sun! Thank you.
On Weds 3rd (15th anniversary of Iggy's Gotcha Day), myself and Frida had just settled in for the night and I had a nice log fire going. I went to the kitchen to get water and walking back through the dining room (my office/studio), I saw that my small paper basket needed emptying so I brought it with me and tipped it into the fire. It just had the strips from peel & seal envelopes which make the bin look full. On to the fire they went and I sat back on the sofa with a to-do list on social media. As I began working, I noticed a strip on the hearth so I went over to put it in with the tongs. As I picked up the paper the fireplace *blew up* showering me and the carpet with hot coals. I escaped lightly with a serious hand injury, as the projectile could have gone straight to my face or caught an artery. It was a horrific freak accident with a bang, a roar and blood pouring and flaming coals on the carpet, but I immediately got into action. Frida was okay, I rang my brother to come immediately and I tried to sort the hot coals with my hand bandaged up in paper towels. Joe arrived with Siobhรกn and he worked on the coals while Siobhรกn helped me and rang for an ambulance. I sat I started going into shock as Siobhรกn was talking to 999 but I still manged to instruct Joe that I needed a few days of clothing. I started losing my voice, vision, consciousness and felt sick, but I kept talking to get through it. The ambulance was quick, Letterkenny involved x-ray/orthopedics, but I had to get to Galway ASAP for surgery (thank you, Catherine).
Fatigue is an issue with me and I believe that after drinking the contents of a small clear plastic turmeric shot bottle, I resealed it and mistakenly dropped it into the paper basket. In the fire the bottle must have settled in behind the contents of the glowing fire and eventually exploded, pushing everything out.
I meet Prof Kelly, who will hopefully give good news this Thursday, and we believe that I escaped serious damage (nerve/ligaments, etc).
Calendars will still be shipping as I'm self-employed! ๐Ÿ˜…

The only photo that I could get as she jumped around!
After a long day and a bunch of meds earlier, I'm calling it a night. I'm also getting my head around the incident (no fall, no glass or knives), so I will have the story for you tomorrow. Sorry about that.
Thanks to Joe, Siobhรกn, Catherine, Mary and Brenda.

When this lovely work of art popped up on Facebook early last year, I had an immediate connection with it. No surprise, you might say.
Iggy had started using the sling around that time, which was a new and major evolvement in her life. Another layer to the depth of our relationship and a real nudge towards her end of days. So, to be honest, I really loved the piece. Life was busy as we were planning for our first Brittany Ferries trip to France, so I moved on from it.
Then, early this year and totally out of the blue, Gary Rowley got in touch and offered me his beautiful sculpture.
After a few weeks, myself and Frida went to meet Gary for the first time and bring "Iggy and Frida" home.
Iggy typically standing proud and protective of Frida, and Frida looking..., wired.
I had hoped to post this on Iggy's 15th Gotcha Day (June 3rd) but as you know, things changed dramatically that night. Good news today, though. I'm currently going through Sligo onboard Feda O'Donnell Buses and hope to be home with Frida late evening.
I return to Galway to see Prof Kelly (plastics department) at Merlin Park Hospital next week.
Story to be told tonight when we settle back in.

Frida has been busy paying for her lodge at Brenda's in Gortahork!
I'm very grateful to Brenda Hewitt Handweaver, for answering my call to come and take care of herweeself.
As I was being seen to in the ambulance outside Iggy HQ, Frida was brought outside to go with Brenda who arrived super quick. The first thing Frida did was break away and jump straight into the back of the ambulance! It was funny, with a tinge of sadness as Frida didn't want to leave. It was a bit like the infamous French shower scene where Frida kept going back behind the curtain!
Truth be told, Frida was in shock from the incident, but we had to part ways.
She's in a good place now and I hope to give the full story tomorrow, if feeling up to it.

Hi folks. I was going to post this photo (June '22) to celebrate Iggy's "Gotcha Day" yesterday, but a freak accident saw me taken to hospital by ambulance last night (11pm) and then transfered to Galway (4:30am) by my fantastic sister, Catherine.
I'm in the plastics ward (hand injury) and I was in theatre to cleanse and explore the wound, and remove tissue for the next procedure. I'll explain in full later, but I count myself lucky.
Frida is being cared for and family are supporting.
*A surgeon just spoke to me this second and is cautiously optimistic that the first procedure could be a success.*
I'm fully accepting of the injury regardless of it's freak nature and who knows, I might be home tomorrow.

It's the 1st of June!
Have you all flipped?!
Your calendars I mean!
Spot Frida at our friend Brian's favourite lighthouse.
The photo and 2026 calendar is dedicated to Brian, who sadly passed away in February of 2025. This photo was taken in April 2024 when myself, Iggy and Frida attended the funeral of Brian's partner, Gary.
The 2025 calendar was dedicated to him.
When Iggy and Frida posed for the cover of our 2026 calendar (Sept '23), Brian and Gary were standing behind me.
On the day of my father's funeral, I saw that Jonathon The Bones of J.R. Jones // will be playing in Belfast (& Dublin), early next year. His song "St. James' bed" played as Iggy passed away in my arms.
Coincidentally, Jonathon (Catskills) and Brian (Rochester) are both from Upstate New York and Brian was a professional voice coach for actors and singers.
