On this day, the 8th September 1980 - 45 years ago, I started work as a trainee photographer on my local newspaper, The Surrey Advertiser, in my home town of Guildford in the UK.
As time went on I moved to a press agency serving the National UK media, then to Auto Express, a motoring magazine, where I spent six years travelling throughout the UK and Europe shooting motoring features.
In 1996 I sold my house, came to live in Ireland, got married to Barbara and became freelance - all in the space of a month !
Over the past 29 years, I’ve become a father to three daughters, have two grandchildren, travelled throughout Ireland covering many and varied assignments, met thousands of people, been welcomed very warmly, and a few years ago became an Irish Citizen.
Here’s to many more years of doing the job I love and my next goal is 50years behind the lens !
