A Brilliant Beginning: Abbeykillix Hosts Inaugural Under-16 Invitational Blitz

Six teams participated in the first ever Abbeykillix Camogie Under-16 Invitational Blitz, held at Lixnaw GAA on Saturday, 29th August, with a fantastic day of camogie enjoyed by players, officials and supporters alike.
The blitz produced nine games in total, with each of the six participating teams playing three matches. From the opening whistle, the standard was extremely high, with all six teams producing high-scoring, high-intensity and high-quality camogie throughout the day.
The Kerry teams involved were Abbeykillix Camogie, Causeway Camogie, Cillard Camogie and Sliabh Luachra Camogie, while Glenroe Camogie and Galbally Camogie travelled from East Limerick to take part.
Following the six round-robin games, the competition culminated in three exciting finals.
The Plate Final saw Sliabh Luachra Camogie take on the host club, Abbeykillix Camogie, with Abbeykillix coming out on top after an excellent contest.
The Shield Final was contested between Galbally and Causeway, with Causeway taking the honours in another closely fought game.
The Cup Final saw Glenroe and Cillard go head-to-head, with Glenroe emerging victorious to claim the cup title.
It was a fantastic day’s camogie and a hugely positive start to what we hope will become an annual fixture on the Under-16 camogie calendar.
A special word of thanks goes to Lixnaw for allowing us the use of the wonderful Lixnaw GAA facilities, including the pitch, astro, dressing rooms and car park. The facilities were excellent and contributed greatly to the success of the day.
We would also like to sincerely thank Mike Hennessy and Kerry Camogie star Kate Lynch for taking charge of the games. Their excellent officiating kept the action flowing throughout the day and ensured that the blitz was played in a fantastic spirit.
A huge thank you also goes to ArdPix and Steve Baker for taking photographs throughout the day. Your work in capturing the action and memories of the inaugural blitz is very much appreciated. Thank you, Steve.
Congratulations to our three winners — Abbeykillix, Causeway and Glenroe — and well done to every player and team who took part. The standard and spirit on display made for a memorable inaugural event.
