Horseshoe Bend. (Arizona)

Erosion From the Colorado River

This consistent erosion over millions of years formed the deep, sweeping curve of the river that defines Horseshoe Bend today. The unique horseshoe shape of this geological marvel is due to a phenomenon known as “meandering,” a common feature in mature rivers.
To reach this place, US Highway 89 in Arizona, between mile markers 545 and 544. A social media darling, Horseshoe Bend has become one of the most recognized and visited places in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.(National Park Service)

Riommagiore-Manarola.

Riomaggiore (Ligurian: Rimazzô, locally Rimazùu[3]) is a village and commune in the province of La Spezia, situated in a small valley in the Liguria region of Italy. It is the first of the Cinque Terre one meets when travelling north from La Spezia.

The village, dating from the early thirteenth century, is known for its historic character and wine produced by the town's vineyards. Riomaggiore is in the Riviera di Levante region. It has a shoreline on the Mediterranean's Gulf of Genoa, with a small beach and a wharf framed by tower houses.

Yipiii…..
Orangutan (Pongo Spp).

Soon after birth, infants learn to use their fingers to grip onto their mothers’ chests. An infant's grip is extremely firm, capable of supporting its own body weight with just their hands.

Two weeks following birth, infants usually have learned how to sit upright and use its hands.

Babies begin eating soft fruit, in addition to nursing, at around three months of age. Initially mothers help prepare the solid food by grinding it up with their teeth, then giving it to their young to chew.

Around two years of age, infants transition from hanging onto their mother's chest to riding on their backs.

Me & Mom…
Orangutan (Pongo Spp)

Orangutans are the largest arboreal animals, spending more than 90 percent of their waking hours in the trees. During the day most of their time is divided equally between resting and feeding. Orangutans are predominantly ripe-fruit eaters, although they consume more than 400 different types of food, including invertebrates and, on rare and opportunistic occasions, meat. Almost every night orangutans construct a sleeping platform in the trees by bending and breaking branches, leaves, and twigs. Unlike the African apes, orangutans frequently use vegetation to protect themselves from the rain.

Smile…
Orangutan (Pongo Spp)

Infant orangutans stay in close contact with their mothers for a long time. For the first two years of a young orangutan’s life, he or she is completely dependent on mother for food and transportation. A baby orangutan clings to his/her mother’s stomach, side, or back while she moves through the trees, and feeds on his/her mother’s breast milk.

Orangutan offspring will sometimes be carried until they are 5 years old and be breast-fed until they are 8 years of age! Even when young orangutans are too old to be carried and fed by their mother, they may still remain close to her, traveling with her, eating, and resting in the same trees, until they are about 10 years old. Once they become independent, they will be alone or in the company of other immature orangutans. In the case of females, they frequently return to their mothers to “visit” until they are about 15-16 years old. Studies indicate that Bornean orangutans may“grow up” faster than Sumatran orangutans and may become independent from their mothers at an earlier age. (Orangutan.org)

Baby Feeding Time….
Siamangs are arboreal inhabitants of the Malay Peninsula and Sumatran rain and monsoon forests. Their distinguishing feature is a large throat sac that they use to make socially important vocalizations. These primates are endangered due to illegal pet trade and habitat loss.

Siamangs live in family groups of a mated pair and their offspring, up to three in number. Such a group lives in a stable home range, 15 to 35 hectares in size, most of which they defend as a territory. The parents mark their territory by singing a duet. If an intruder (including a human) enters their territory, a male will confront it, while the female usually retreats out of sight. These gibbons wake at sunrise and first perform their morning "concert". They then set out to find food. It generally takes siamangs around five hours to eat enough to be satisfied. After being active for around 8 to 10 hours, they return to their sleeping place. Grooming is one of the siamangs' most important social activities. Adults groom usually for 15 minutes a day. It is a show of dominance, with the more dominant individual receiving more grooming than it provides. An adult male will groom a female and males which are sub-adult. During the breeding season, he will spend more time grooming the female.
