The underwater world is my favourite place on earth. Always has been since i started diving in 2008. Down there, somehow the time slows down, nothing else exists just our thoughts and breath, colour, movement, and this ancient, humbling quiet … it’s my meditation.

I’ve had some pretty extraordinary moments beneath the surface. But I haven’t been able to get over this last diving trip to . Turtle eggs laid by moonlight. Hatchlings taking their first breath of sea. Sharks and turtles sharing the same reef. Walls of thousands of fish. Moments I keep replaying.

Happy World Ocean Day.
Protect what takes your breath away. 🐢🦈

There are moments in travel that don’t translate into words very well. Watching a mother orangutan cradle her baby while suspended effortlessly between the treetops, grab a coconut and open it while holding a branch with one hand is one of them.🦧

At the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, rescued and orphaned orangutans are slowly, patiently prepared for life back in the wild. The feeding platforms bring them close enough to observe, but the real magic is watching them simply be, navigating the canopy on their own terms, entirely unbothered by the humans below.

Borneo is one of only two places on Earth where wild orangutans still exist. If that doesn’t make you want to protect every last tree, I don’t know what will.

Meet the sleepy sun bear, the world’s smallest bear species, and quite possibly its most endearing. 🐻

I knew Borneo and Sepilok for the orangutans (more on that soon), but honestly? These little ones stole my heart completely. Never thought I would be watching them taking a nap in the trees at the , claws draped lazily over branches like they haven’t got a care in the world... I could have stayed all day.

Most people don’t even know sun bears exist. Fewer still know they’re vulnerable to extinction, largely due to habitat loss right in Borneo. The centre does incredible work rehabilitating rescued bears (40+ at the moment) and returning them to the wild.

A visit here is one of the most meaningful things you can do in Sabah.

Deep in the rainforests of Sabah, Borneo, there’s a place where the jungle doesn’t stop at your doorstep. It becomes your doorstep. 🌿

sits on the edge of one of the world’s oldest rainforests, where wooden cabins hide among towering dipterocarp trees and the soundtrack is all birdsong and rustling leaves. Waking up here feels less like a hotel stay and more like being folded gently into the wild.

Already missing Japan and the pink world of the Sakura season 🌸

At .temple just outside Osaka, the experience felt even more special. Known as the Daruma Temple, it’s a place where thousands (if not tens of thousands) of Daruma dolls carry the wishes, intentions, and quiet hopes of those who visit.

Set within beautifully landscaped gardens, surrounded by forested hills and a serene lake, the temple invites you to slow down.

My first Sakura season, wrapped in moments like this… already unforgettable.

🌸🌸🌸There’s something almost surreal about how quickly it happens: just a few days where everything softens, the light shifts, and the air carries that quiet sense of transition.

For a brief moment, everything slows down to take in nature’s show. Parks fill, streets feel lighter, and the city seems to pause.

Dry landscape (the country is facing a drought situation), days of grey skies. with blossoms that felt like they might never arrive during our trip, I was almost losing hope… but then, it happened.

My first cherry blossom season: already unforgettable 🌸🌸🌸
