When I took this picture I actually had a caption like “Chase your dreams and follow your heart. You will be able to reach your goals” in mind.
Now the intention of this post is different.
Reach out to others that are a less privileged than you. Listen to their story and offer a hand. It’s time to speak up against racism. Especially, if you’re white.

Thursday last week was the last time I had to take off my glasses before going to bed.

Friday was the last day I had to wear them.

I know it sounds scary at first but getting my eyes lasered was the best decision ever. if you’re not sure if you should do it, I’d definitely recommend it.

Have you thought about doing it? And do you have any questions? Feel free to ask! 😊

About 17 years ago I got my first pair of glasses. I don’t really remember the moment I got them and how I felt but I remember when a kid in my school said to me something like “So young and already glasses!?”. If I have ever liked them before, that was the moment I didn’t want to wear them anymore. And I thought why me? Why do my eyes have to be so bad?

So I actually stopped wearing them. I decided to sit in first row so I wouldn’t have any problems reading what was written on the board. However, especially in the first couple years my eyes got worse and worse and at some point I just had to wear my glasses. It took courage and I wasn’t happy with it. I just didn’t like how I look with glasses and still was wondering “Why me?”.
I also used to play soccer. For that, I had another pair made out of titanium that was flexible so they wouldn’t break with the first header. It still hurt and the things of glasses that sit on your nose still bend every time I actually took my courage to make header. Since I had to wear glasses, I tried to avoid doing that as much as I could.
Then, I finally got to try contact lenses. That was a great day even though it was very difficult to put them in but I could see now! Everything! Like a normal person! After I had gotten contact lenses I stopped wearing my glasses pretty much completely. In 2012 when I was still in the US, my eyes got infected and I had to wear my glasses. To school. Back then probably one of my biggest nightmares. Yet, there was no other option. The main reason I didn’t like my glasses was still how they looked and how they made me look. So it personally helped me a lot that I just got positive feedback

//Winter Vacation 2020

This month, the first week of march, my parents and I went to Austria. Crazy, that right now you can’t really go anywhere and that everything is so limited. So I am even more grateful that we could go on that trip together.

I actually wanted to tell you that a couple years ago I didn’t want to take pictures of friends and family because my portraits just didn’t reach the quality I had in mind. I compared them to pictures of celebrities that I saw on magazine covers - perfect lighting, professional makeup, fancy clothes and/or exclusive locations. The people are put in the spotlight if it’s not a photo taken by a paparazzi. Those picture are often horrible but I am happy they exist because they show that all the famous people are human as well. They don’t always look so “perfect”. In everyday life the set up rarely is so “perfect”. That’s when the switch in my mind flipped. Everyone can be a model. Everyone can be a hero just like all the nurses, doctors and scientists now. No one has to be an actor or anything else of that kind. The only thing I as a photographer have to do is to put the person in the spotlight.

The other problem was that I never intended to tell a story. I just wanted to get a technically perfect picture. It seemed easier with landscapes because with a great scenery and an amazing sunset, pictures often look perfect without editing or having the settings right. However, an even better picture tells a story. So I challenged myself to capture ordinary situations that tell the story of our vacation and to put my parents in the spotlight. I’m happy with the results.

What do you think?

(I still like to shoot landscapes but with improved skills I definitely will shoot more portraits as well.)

With a beautiful sunset. This is how our first day ended.

As a side note, it needs to be mentioned that I crashed into a tree on our way back home. We were almost there. Good thing it didn’t happen anything serious - just a couple scars and the left light of the scooter broke. There was no one else involved. Two reasons why this happened: We were a little dehydrated and tired after a long flight and a long day.

We payed our host for the light and he took care of everything else. Luckily it was cheaper as expected as well. I definitely didn’t plan to spend money on something like that.

So take it easy on your first day and some extra money for unexpected things is always a good idea!

Do you guys have a similar story to share?

“YouTuber??”, we were asked by a staff member at the airport in Singapore. It wasn’t the last time our cameras drew people’s attention.

While visiting the Uluwatu temple, some Asian people asked us to take pictures. Of course we said yes. However, we had misunderstood them. They actually wanted to take a picture with us.

We didn’t think we would stand out so much from other tourists just because we had microphones mounted on top of our cameras.

Definitely would to be great to be on that warm and sunny island right now!

And yes, that's actually a picture of me. Taken by .weisser

Have you ever seen a golden Audi before? Me neither and I didn't expect to find one in this part of Singapore at all.

After about 2 hours of exploring Singapore, we headed back to the airport, ate something and took a nap in some armchairs until we finally took our connecting flight to Bali.

After visiting the Merlion Park and seeing the Marina Bay hotel, the bus drove through Chinatown, Little India and eventually stopped in Kampong Glam at the Malay Heritage Center. From here, we could explore this colorful district with it's modern art galleries and cafés, traditional businesses and restored shophouses. The highlight was the the Sultan Mosque.
