Dinner tonight was shrimp fried rice (they didn't have the seafood fried rice.) Large portion for only $8 USD and loaded with shrimp; even though I didn't eat lunch, I couldn't finish it all so I brought the rest back in a box.

Who's ever heard of a Chinese restaurant that doesn't have chopsticks??? I get chopsticks when I eat Chinese food in Caye Caulker. (It's Chinese food Belizean style. Locals eat there. And it's cheap. It's not as though I'm going to Belize demanding burgers & fries, FFS.) Chinese food eaten with a fork tastes weird. I've been using chopsticks for close to 60 years. Feels wrong.

I did stop for ice cream OMW back. Coconut and chocolate this time. Had trouble finishing it and needed Pepcid. Fcking GERD, which I think is due to my hiatal hernia acting up from the 10 # I've gained since I returned from Belize last time and all of the inactivity imposed by medical issues. Fck getting old.

My journey at 5:30 this morning in search of "the best meat pies in San Ignacio."

They may be the best in San Ignacio, but I didn't like them as much as the ones in Caye Caulker. Granted, as someone who grew up in the US, I know nothing about meat pies, so objectively, these may be better. They were definitely cheaper: $1.25 BZD vs. $2 BZD ($1 USD = $2 BZD... always). They had more "empty space, so had a higher pastry:filling ratio, and had more meat (the ones I get in Caye Caulker are essentially all gravy.) But the ones in Caye Caulker taste better. I certainly will not walk ¾ mile each way—up these hills—again to get these. I'll stick to Mike's and cheap breakfast at the Market.

So, after lunch and my failed attempt to visit the iguanas, I took a small detour to the suspension bridge (there are 2 bridges over the Macal river, each supporting 1-way vehicular traffic to/from Santa Elena). If you look in the far background on the left (St. Ignacio side) in the last picture, you can see the boardwalk from which I took pictures yesterday... and the black willow tree in other photos I took. The difference in heights of these 2 bridges may also give you an idea of the hilliness of San Ignacio—very different from the extreme flat terrain of the cayes.

I walked all the way up the hill (1st pic, almost there) only to learn that the Green Iguana Conservation Project 💚 is closed for renovations on Tuesdays. I took the last 2 pictures OMW down the hill from the same place... but it really didn't capture the reality. It is 88°F but feels like 97°F. No sea breeze inland. 🥵

Today I had the same breakfast as yesterday, again at Mikes. He opens at 5 am—I'm up at 4 (yeah, I know, but getting up at 6 again when I return home will be close to seamless) and nobody else opens that early.

Lunch today was pineapple juice and a shrimp burrito with a salsa made primarily cucumber with carrots and onions, and tortilla chips. Cost: $10 USD including tip.

One of the ways I try to lessen the stress on my body when visiting Belize is by trying to keep my body on US time... which means that I am up at 4 am taking sunrise photos at about 5 almost every day, whether the weather & sun decide to cooperate or not.

I needed an umbrella for much of my 1:15 hour 5 am foray into the elements for photos and breakfast, but today was more productive than yesterday. I did edit the pics, as ambiance light fuct up the colors *again*.

I first saw this from a distance without the interference of the nearby light and had to see what it was. As I recall (according to Merlin) the birds that can bevheard loudly in the background are the Great-tailed Grackle (I have seen many grackles around), the Social Flycatcher (Merlin identified several species of flycathers this morning) & the Clay-colored Thrush. Yeah, the Audubon bird people have influenced me but I still know almost nothing about birds. 🤷🏼‍♀️

So... hours after I posted about my concerns regarding my planned trip to Benque yesterday, I received a message from my artist friend apologizing profusely for the weird messages, stating that they were not intended for me, and laughingly stating that I must think he's "crazy."

Maybe I am supposed to let down my guard, i.e., be "crazy" myself, or maybe offing someone else is the thing he needs to do in the morning before getting together with me. Maybe I watch too many crime documentaries and am too cynical. I *was* living in Florida when Ted Bundy and Aileen Wuornos were ex̌e cute ted... and possibly camped in the same campsite where Brian Laundrie camped with his family after ķı11ıɲg Gabby Petito.

I thought about deleting my original post in case he has found this page, but it's supposed to rain all day today anyway, and erasure of part of my travel adventure doesn't seem right. We'll see.... 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️
