Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Your Zodiac sign says something about you.
But owning it says something more.
It says you chose it.

Every year, the calendar shifts.
New animal. New symbolism. New energy.

But your sign stays with you.

The Zodiac Collection isn’t just about tradition. It’s about identity. Each animal carries personality, movement, temperament, rhythm.

Some people are unmistakably Horse.
Some are quietly Ox.
Some are sharp and quick like the Rat.

There’s something powerful about recognising yourself in a symbol that has travelled through centuries.

And something even more powerful about placing it on your wall.

This Chinese New Year, instead of simply celebrating the season, you might choose to mark your own year — the one that represents you.

A piece of Hong Kong.
A piece of heritage.
A piece that feels personal.

To mark the Year of the Horse, Zodiac prints ordered in February include a complimentary Zodiac umbrella.

You can explore all twelve signs via my website. Link in bio.

What’s your year?

🐴 The Zodiac Collection began as a reflection on time. The collection was created when my kids were very small and I was working at home on a mini scale. I continue to think about the passing of time as they grow, change and step into their own lives more and more. I look back with awe, tinges of sadness for times past, but most of all extreme happiness. The Zodiac Collection is very special for me and I’m grateful that it continues to speak to people.

In China 🇨🇳, years were once named after animals. A rhythm of twelve forms repeating through generations.

I wanted to explore that tradition through the lens of Hong Kong 🇭🇰.

Each piece is built from photographs of the city. Transport systems. Accommodation. Commerce. Everyday structures that shape how we live. The images are torn and reassembled, echoing the way Hong Kong is constantly rebuilt.

You’ll notice fragments of Jardine House woven throughout the collection. A modernist icon that already feels historic. That contrast between ancient symbolism and rapid urban change continues to fascinate me.

As we move into the Year of the Horse, this feels like a meaningful moment to revisit the series. Looking for something iconically Hong Kong for a visitor or a special gift? Consider a Zodiac Print from my collection. Everyone has a sign! What is yours?

Available via my website. Link in bio 🖌️

Welcome to my world new followers, and thanks to everyone who’s followed my journey so far.

Here’s a little bit about me!

I came to HK in 1999, straight from Art college in the Uk, to help establish a local art school.

In 2002 I set up my own art school in Wanchai
I was 25 years old and didn’t have a clue about running a business, but it was the best career decision I ever made.

I have three children aged 17, 15 & 12 and I’ve loved being able to juggle family and business. I’m so grateful for that.

🎨 I exhibit every year in HK and, when I’m organised, other countries too. My work is always evolving but in simple terms, I’m preoccupied with colour and the balance between tiny details and blurred surroundings.

🌍 My artwork hangs in homes around the world; I still pinch myself when I think that these pieces I’ve lovingly created are a part of people’s daily lives.

🏙️ I built up a print & product range - on sale in shops such as M+ Museum Shop, Bookazine and the Lion Rock Press, who have all been very supportive. I am in limbo with this at the moment and will put my focus back into my art. I can’t grow this side of my business alone and my creative output has suffered.

🎨 My teaching has evolved from writing and teaching my own curricula for younger students, to visiting schools as an artist in residence, facilitating murals and workshops.
I also run weekly adult classes that fill my cup in so many ways.

🌿I’ve been running retreats in Thailand with my great friend for the last 6 years. I love nothing more than getting to know people through sharing creative skills and chatting over food. 🍲

I’m most grateful to HK and the entrepreneurial spirit here. I don’t think I would have been able to build an art business like this anywhere else, but I do want to expand my reach so who knows what the future will hold.

I’m excited to find out. Right now I’m here in HK, loving life and my work. 🌿⭐️🎨🌍

I initially created this post as a tongue-in-cheek joke, placing myself alongside some of the most celebrated artists. I don’t like to take myself too seriously, so after the initial fun I had creating this, I had a moment of fear at the thought that I could even jokingly suggest that I belong next to these artists.

This lead me to examine my own challenges with self promotion and self belief. While it may not seem like it on Instagram, I feel much more at ease discussing my teaching practice and celebrating the creativity of others, than I do talking about my own art practice.
This is slowly changing as I rid myself of these limiting thoughts and look at the reality of the situation. I have been making art for over 26 years and I’m very serious about it.

I’ve built up a substantial body of work that regularly sells and hangs in homes around the world. A benefit of living in Hong Kong, where people often buy work and then move abroad. I am so happy to be constantly creating, experimenting and evolving as an artist.

The artists I have chosen to include in this post have profoundly influenced me. Many of the women artists from the Renaissance were trailblazers in their time. I admire them for their skill and process, whilst other more modern artists have inspired me through their bold use of colour and their ability to change and keep pushing boundaries, rather than accept being pigeonholed for one style.

Amid today’s conversations about AI, I am excited by the potential across various industries. However, it’s clear in my mind that a computer cannot replicate the human touch, or the unique mark an artist makes on a canvas, or slab of clay. The value of human created art is irreplaceable. As we navigate an era where we might be losing skills by bypassing hard work in many areas of life, I am committed to pushing myself creatively.

Currently, I’m working on a new collection of oil paintings which will take time to compete. In the meantime I invite you to scroll and enjoy these three paintings from my previous collections.
Should you wish to enjoy them long term feel free to reach out for a viewing.

The creative hub was a little oasis of calm amongst the buzz of the fair. We had such a lovely time, and in just one hour some genuinely beautifully works were created and taken home.

I was in my element bringing a little bit of to the fair.

I’ve been using silhouettes for years with my collage works, creating a boundary for the assorted images I pack inside each one. I’ve also been using wooded silhouettes for a number of years for mural works. I create murals that are designed to be movable and reimagined in different spaces.

This is the first time I’m using wooden silhouettes in one of my collections.
I am trying to create more space within my pieces, which I find challenging - I tend to want to fit in as much as possible. It’s been an interesting process pulling this collection together.

I am so happy with the vintage wooden frames that really are part of the artwork.

Come and see the first pieces in this new series - next week Thursday 22nd - Sunday 25th May at the HK convention centre. Booth F02
