In 2012-2013 We Participate teamed up with Canadian Photographer Rene de Carufel to facilitate workshops with the Arts Collectivo 'Canal de Cultural' in San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitlan Guatemala.
In 2013-14 Rene de Carufel ran further workshops for visitors to San Pedro and later set up a vibrant local community gallery to exhibit and work from.
This year he will be running exciting workshops for budding photographers to Guatemala to learn the art of photography and experience Guatemalan local culture and life through the lens.
Please see the link below for further information.
An extremely exciting opportunity for anyone with a passion for photography and an adventurous spirit for travel:

These workshops will provide funding for free photography classes to kids of the region. In association with british photographer Anna Stafford and her project We Participate, https://www.facebook.com/WeParticipate, we will be organizing several classes as we did in February 2012.

A gallery of photographs taken by the budding photographers who participated in the project. We explored the art of photography through a series of fun workshops on creative composition, self portraiture and storytelling. Their photography is imaginative and fresh. The kids view of their world reflects the joy of exploring with an untrained eye. We were all inspired by their confident, experimental and original vision.

As promised here are the images taken from the month long workshops with the kids from the Canal Cultural in San Pedro La Laguna, Lake Atitilan, Guatemala. We Participate worked with Canadian photographer Rene De Carufel and the team from the Canal Cultural Colectivo de Artistas. Canal Cultural is an inspiring centre for the community. In addition to their own practice that explores issues of indigenous culture, landscape and identity the local artists provide art classes for children in the community of San Pedro. The group are dedicated to improving the art education for the children and expanding their understanding of creative thought and process. We Participate supported the project and introduced the art of photography through a series of fun, imaginative and practical workshops that included the History of Photography, digital camera skills and storytelling. Hope you enjoy the results. Anna, Rene and all at the Canal Cultural.
