Day 2 challenge STRADA.Easel
Lithos & Hydor series, "Alkyonides" I’m only using rocks I gathered from Zoodochou Pigi island, which is part of the Alkyonides Islands.
For today’s rock I used coloured pencils. I’m going to continue this piece in different media. Each rock a different medium depending of how it inspires me. I’m choosing to use gouache, watercolour, coloured pencils and markers. It will be an interesting piece when will be done. I’m curious to see how all the media will look next to each other.
Also, I couldn’t resist adding some highlights on yesterday’s rock.

For today’s rock I used Caran d'Ache Luminance, Derwent Lightfast, Procolour, Atrists, on Fabriano hot pressed 9 x 12" paper

Day 1 challenge. I chose to go a bit darker on the colours, showing the deep shades of a wet rock.
I’m going to continue my Lithos & Hydor series through this year’s challenge. Started the first rock is in gouache. I have some ideas, not sure of how I’m going to continue this piece. I guess you’ll find out along the way. I guess I’ll find out along the way 😄

“Between Two Worlds” My newest painting from the Lithos & Hydor series and the photo that inspired it.
Shifting perspectives and technique for this one, but rooted in the very same core elements. This piece plays with that mesmerizing boundary between the solid floor beneath and its luminous, shifting reflection from under the surface.

"Sun Kissed Reflections” is another piece from my Lithos & Hydor series.
My inspiration for this painting was a photo I took near Alyki Beotia, Corinthian Gulf. This shoreline boasts a captivating palette: rich, deep greens and unexpected flashes of warm orange, all anchored by the heavy, dark weight of black sea-worn stones.
Unfortunately I haven’t photographed the whole painting process so, the two extra photos are from the last stages of the painting. There are differences, but they are subtle.

The Glass Current
The third piece from my Lithos & Hydor series.
Mixed media on A4 paper. (8.3 x 11.7")
This comes with a story about failure and not giving up. So, I wanted to try the bubble technique on this one, and that went completely wrong. I don’t know if my mixture wasn’t right or the paper I used, but that technique didn’t work out. However, even though I failed at that, I adapted and I created something completely different. The bubbles might’ve failed, but I got a beautiful glaze instead. There is a lesson in this attempt: never let an accident or a failed attempt to discourage you; don’t give up and keep going.
At the end of the day, I’m really happy of how this turned out. I believe it’s even better than what I originally had in mind.

Out of the Riverbed

Fresh off the easel. The second piece from the Lithos & Hydor series (from the Greek for Stone & Water) Yes, I’m making this a series. Some of you might remember the first pebble and shells drawing from last year and the beginning of this one.
This piece focuses entirely on the dry textures and heavy forms of stones shaped by a current that is no longer there. I experimented with plastic wrap and salt for the underpainting and I absolutely loved it.
