Happy Father’s Day to these men of peace, maintainers of law and order
Today marks another day for responsible men who have played diverse roles in both national and family life that qualify them to be celebrated.
I’m going to celebrate three distinguished top-most police personalities, past and present: the current Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and two former IGPs, Mohamed Alhassan and George Akuffo Dampare, for how they tactfully curbed persistent armed robbery activities that traumatised residents of Ngleshie Amanfro in 2015.
At the time, armed robbers took advantage of the bad road network to terrorise residents.
Robbers engaged in mass robbery across the community while Amanfro police were unable to arrest them due to the terrible road network.
IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, then the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, visited the community with his team to pick first-hand information from the ground.
The next thing we heard was that IGP Mr Mohammed Alhassan and his echelon were coming to the community.
As part of their strategy, they brought a large fleet of police armoured cars, which literally turned the entire community into a combat zone.
When the IGP got down, he walked side by side with his immediate commanders, with the current IGP on his right and Dampare on the left.
Surprisingly, after solving the Ngleshie Amanfro problem, these two senior officers who came accompanied by Mr Mohammed Alhassan have become IGP making it sound like a divine reward for solving the Ngleshie Amanfro robbery nightmare.
After the meeting, Mr Alhassan dispatched police detectives and patrol teams to the community, who lived in a tent mounted at the taxi rank.
Within a few days, these detectives were able to comb the community and arrest those robbers to restore the lost peace.
The IGP was said to have requested immediate construction of the road which we are enjoying today.

Moments I’ve Covered: From the Queen to U.S. Presidents.
As a photojournalist, some of my defining assignments have been when Ghana stood on the world stage.
Each frame captured more than a visit — it captured history.
In November 1999, I covered Queen Elizabeth II’s second and final visit to Ghana with Prince Philip, my Eriksson phone and Spacefon, now MTN, keeping me connected to the newsroom.
Though some of those photos were later lost to an archival challenge, the memory of that historic return 40 years after her 1961 visit remains.
In February 2008, I documented Ghana’s first sitting U.S. President — George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush on their symbolic stop in Accra.
Then, in July 2009, I covered President Barack Obama’s historic two-day visit to Ghana, his first presidential trip to sub-Saharan Africa.
The hope in the air was palpable.
More recently, in October 2018, I captured First Lady Melania Trump’s quiet, human moments with mothers and children at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.
From the Queen to Bush, Obama, and Melania Trump, these assignments remind me why photojournalism matters.
A camera doesn’t just record who came and went. It preserves how Ghana received them, and how those visits shaped our place in the world.
