I have a question for the or owners It’s a long one. I know I have to bring it to Kia, but I’m trying to get some ideas of how much this is gonna cost me! 😫😫😫
have a 2011 Kia Soul Plus. About six or seven months ago, I had the first incident where the brakes seemed to lock up while I was leaving a stop. I pulled into a gas station, and the car actually brought itself to a HARD stop. I pressed the brake pedal hard, and after that it went back to normal and stayed fine for a few months. Then it happened again, and the third time it happened the car completely refused to move, the wheel would not turn at all. I called someone I know whose husband is a mechanic, and he said it was most likely a stuck caliper. He came over and replaced the front caliper, but I later found out that the bolts/pins that secure the caliper in place were not installed. The car was still locked up afterward and would not move, so he said it probably needed brake lines and that the rear caliper also needed to be checked because it appeared to be locked up too and he needs the car at his home/shop for him to do that, I had it towed there. Work was done on the rear caliper as well, and I later found out that the securing hardware there was also not reinstalled. (I asked the Shop could it have been an accident where they fell out after they were put in and I got a very hard NO)
When he was finished, he drove the car back to my house so something helped for a little while, probably bleeding the brake lines???? -and told me I needed struts because there was rattling and banging underneath the car I was extremely skeptical because my struts aren’t very new.
I eventually took the car to a well-known mechanic shop in Jesup with a very good reputation. They inspected it and found that my struts were not bad at all and the noise was coming from the calipers being unsecured because the bolts/pins were missing.
They repaired that issue and did additional brake work, but they still have not been able to determine exactly what is causing the original problem where the car suddenly feels like the brakes are being applied, slows itself down, and can even come to a complete stop and refuse to move.
After I picked the car up from them the first time, before I even made it home, the traction control light came on and the car acted up again. It struggled to go over about 60 mph and felt like something was holding it back, so I towed it back to the shop.
They hooked it up to their high-end diagnostic scanner, cleared and checked the codes, and even performed a live-data road test, but they still could not find a definite cause. I picked up my keys Friday, went back today to get my car, and it did the exact same thing again. I was going about 25 miles an hour on a little side road and took my foot off the gas pedal just to see what would happen. It brought me to a stopping in about 12 seconds!
I’m asked my brake pedal and it acted all right Ish-ish!
At highway speed of 60 the steering wheel start shaking very hard but when I take my foot off the gas pedal, it starts shaking even hard lol!!! Any idea???
