Good evening my dear friends,
Whilst resting, the darkness has granted me leisure to consider those of you whom wander this Book of Face. If you are new here, I am Vlad. I bid you welcome to my house. Come in, for the night air is chill and you must need to rest. I shall attend to your comfort gladly and trust you will find all you wish. If you are ready, I welcome you with an open cloak, for here you may converse, discover kindred spirits and settle how you please.

Over the past week, many of you have taught me many wonderful ways to speak your dialect. I fear I am but a little way along the road, as I am but a stranger in a strange land. Yet, your gentle guidance and courtesy brings great solace and peace.

I offer you all my heartfelt thanks.

On the 'morrow (Saturday 17th October) I am to descend into Whitby, and again on the 27th, prior to Whitby Goth Weekend which grows ever closer. If you glimpse my cloak and top hat, call my name, I come bearing gifts...

Starting with a wedding in Bridlington today, a photoshoot on the beach tomorrow evening, and then on Thursday evening I’ll be giving a talk about lighting and wedding photography to Guisborough Photo Group.

Happy 1st legal signing day to Lou and Muz. Part one of their Whitby wedding.

Yesterday the Whitby whale bones were removed and new bronze ones will replace them in the new year.

Like the new bronze bones, Lou and Muz will continue to stand together solid.

It’s 19 years ago today that the attack took place in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, that would take Sophie’s life 13 days later.

Today, we send our love to Sophie’s family and friends and to everyone who continues to love and remember her. Sophie is not simply a figurehead or a banner we march behind. She was a person, a daughter, a friend, a sister and a young woman who should still be here with us today. We grieve the life that was taken from her.

At Sophie’s murder trial, the attack was described as “feral thuggery” by His Honour Judge Anthony Russell QC. Many of us may stand out as different within our communities but every one of us has the right to be who we are and to live our lives free from fear and violence.

We must continue to stand together and unite against hatred, prejudice and violence in all our communities. Because when one of us is targeted for being different, the impact reaches far beyond one person. If we don’t stand together, it rebounds on us all.

Today, we remember Sophie. And we renew our commitment to continue the work that her mum Sylvia started - to Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere.

For Sophie, always.
