A with a twist!

We spotted this American Robin whilst on a hike up to Inspiration Point. Belonging to the genus Turdus, the only thing they have in common with our European Robin is the red breast. They are actually more closely related to our Blackbird and Thrushes

Sunset at The Trust

Part Two

I recently spent a fantastic evening at The Hawk Conservancy, the weather was great and the environment was magical. Seeing these birds fly up close was amazing and the talks were very informative, detailing the struggle birds of prey and vultures face in the world today.

Part One - Flight Edition

I recently spent a fantastic evening at The Hawk Conservancy, the weather was great and the environment was magical. Seeing these birds fly up close was amazing and the talks were very informative, detailing the struggle birds of prey and vultures face in the world today.

The Majestic Red Kite

Red Kites are regular users of a weather process called "Orographic Lift". They use the environment around them to make flight easier and save energy. For example, when a wind blows against a hill, the air will get pushed upwards and they use this to their advantage and gain extra lift. It also means if you position yourself correctly, you can see them fly directly over your head 😜
