A search for the best places in Cornwall led to this, my photograph appearing as the image for Tintagel Castle.

Taken at dawn in 2015, I was given early access before public opening, allowing a rare early morning view of the island.

Complete stillness – just the ruins, the sea, and first light.

This image formed part of a commissioned series for Malcolm Reading Consultants on behalf of English Heritage, created to help inform and inspire the design of the new footbridge.

Always interesting to see commissioned work resurface online years later in unexpected ways.

Back in 2004 whilst working as a snapper for Apex News Pix/ Cornish Guardian. I was in the area of Boscastle and was asked if I could return to Boscastle, an hour after being there, as the carpark was flooding. As the first official photographer there, I knew it would be vital to make it through the increasingly flooding roads. The fork lightning was a little scary but nothing as terrifying as the scene that I return to. The entire village was under water. The images I took that day were published Nationalally and internationally.
If you want to see more about that day, there is a new series called Britain’s worst Weather Disasters, Channel 5. You will see me being interviewed about that day. Series 1, ep 1. About half way through is the part on the Boscastle flash flood.

This was a Comminsion from Jefferys estate agents in Lostwithiel. For three large canvases for the walls of their officie. So I spent many days last October studying the light and tides for the 13th,15th, 17th and 18th century bridge and the birds eye view above the town. Lostwithiel is a beautiful small town set in the valley alongside the beautiful river Fowey that flows at the edge of the woods. Founded in the 12th century by Norman lords, who built the nearby Restormel castle looking over the once major port for sea going ships, declining over time as the river silted up, (but still a great place for small boats, kayaking and canoeing). Lostwithiel continued to thrive through alternative trade in weaving, tanning, pottery and pewter. In Cornish Lostwithiel is ‘Lost Gwydhel’ meaning ‘tail-end of the wood.

Two of my photos of Jamaica Inn, on Bodmin Moor. Jamaica Inn was made famous from the Jamaica Inn 1936 gothic suspense novel by Daphne du Maurier, set in Cornwall around 1815. And film in 1939. In 2014 a TV series was aired.
I took the snow image in Nov 2024 just as the lamp lights came on and the Spring dawn image on May morning last year, just as the sun rose and momentarily shon on the East side of the building and just before the lamp lights went out. I have since sold nearly 1400 cards and postcards from the shop. So thank you to everyone who has bought a card or postcard of these images and to the lovely staff at Jamaica Inn who I have got to know well with all the re- stock visits. ❤️

Couple find Jesus in a barn! Great story from local lady Sarah Worne and her husband Mike. Sarah is known as the Bird lady of Fowey as she keeps birds of pray including beautiful Owls. They found a massive painting of Jesus in a barn they had recently purchased and Sarah has been solving the mystery through the help of the media. Some of my photos here including those on many different news pages, with SWNS. The painting can be seen at Lostwithiel church, Cornwall.

It was a real pleasure photographing Zoe Legg for NFU for the 2nd time recently for this article.
She is a Final Year Student at Harper Adams University and NFU Student and Young Farmer Ambassador 2019/2020. Striving for a career in the wedding planning & agi-events industry. Zoe is an amazing and ambitious girl who has overcome several hurdles in her young life, has a very promising career in front of her, and is at the start of an exciting diversification journey.

Queens memorial
Looking back at 2024, one of the most enjoyable photography projects I worked on, was for the late Queen Elizabeth II national memorial, last autumn.
A master plan design competition has been released, world wide, by Malcolm Reading consultants.
It was an adventure going into Buckingham Palace to take photographs from the roof top, for the Birdseye view photographs of St.James Park. And an honour be the photographer for this project.
Over her 70 year reign, the longest of any British monarch, the beloved late Queen was exemplary and a constant presence in the United Kingdom the realms, and the Commonwealth. she was part of our national identity.
See www.malcolmreading.com
for more information.
