Male Stonechat filmed at Thursley Common

Male stonechats are small, robin-sized birds recognized by their striking black heads, white neck collars, and rich orange-red breasts. Highly territorial year-round, males frequently perch on top of low gorse or heather, flicking their wings and uttering a distinctive alarm call that sounds like clacking pebbles

Taken on my Canon R7 paired to my Canon EF100-400ii and 1.4iii extender.

Highly dependent on reedbed habitats, it feeds on small mammals, waterfowl, and frogs. Once extinct as a UK breeding species, it has made a remarkable conservation recovery.

Taken on my Canon R7 paired to my Canon EF100-400ii and 1.4iii extender.
