Stephanie Lisa Kelly Cultural Design & Web design for Conscious Leaders & Collectives Photos hold a frequency.

My photography work aims to capture and share high frequency images; pictures that transmit inspiration, beauty, hope - qualities our society very much needs at this crucial moment in history. I'm interested in emergent culture, and in exploring photography as a vehicle for healing, self-inquiry & self-expression. I currently offer photoshoots for individuals and am preparing my first exhibition, "Rewilding Humans" in November 2023.

It’s a strange thing, midlife.

I turn 45 in October (how??), and as a friend said to me when I was cusping 30, you have different questions in each decade. So far the forties feel (especially for women) like a rollercoaster through the underworld. A dark, Scorpionic initiation, from which there is no return (but an ascension into something else).

Youth has left, your body has changed (and will continue to do so in ways you are unlikely to enjoy), your (hard won) inner peace has disappeared into thin air, mortality has taken a step towards you, and the free and fanciful creature you used to be appears to be gone for good.

Fu**in bo****ks.

BUT, whether despite this or because of it, we also have a newly emerging size.

We begin to take up more space. It’s subtle but it’s there. Like we’re just done taking s**t from the patriarchy, from other women, from bosses, from institutions, from society and its life-negating myths. We stand more firmly, more solidly (thanks middle-age spread) on our ground, knowing what we know, not needing to excuse or validate or question.

This bit feels nice.

I mean, it’s stuff I’ve been practicing for a long time, but f me, it’s hard to completely dissolve that conditioning. And now it feels different. Like something that came in with the night tide and has taken up residence as an unknown but welcome friend.

There, I said it. I have butterflies in my tummy about sharing this post, but I feel very alone in my situation and feel like there really still isn’t much open discussion about the challenges of being in a stepparent role. The topic of children tends to get everyone’s panties in a twist but f**k it. This is real life.

I’m just going to say it: I REALLY, really enjoy being by myself. I f**king love it.

When I’m alone, and in a healthy state, my energy is calm, grounded, open, connected - I feel deeply connected to life, to nature, to the unseen, to my creativity and a deep sense of harmony and peace.

Most introverts can probably relate.

It’s always been that way; being alone = easy, being with others = varying degrees of challenging.
Most of my life (when I was fairly outspoken and gave no f**ks - we might be getting back to that btw) I happily shared that I just don’t like humans very much, that I vastly prefer animals and nature, and that I’m much happier being alone.

The main thing about introverts needing time alone is that being in other people’s energy fields takes so much of OUR energy that we then need solo time to recalibrate to our own frequency.

For these reasons, I am HIGHLY selective about who I allow into my inner sanctum, my home. I have to be - home is where I go to rest and recalibrate after being out in the world. It’s super important that that space is energetically healthy for me.

And the situation I’m in means that I have (on and off) a human in that space that I wouldn’t choose to have there: my partner’s child. And folks let me tell you, there is NOTHING as disruptive to a highly sensitive, introverted nervous system than a raging extrovert seven-year-old boy.

Re-aligning ourselves with the intelligence of loci bf systems is a no-brainier. These practices mainly require an open mind to thinking, seeing and acting differently; they are intuitive and user-friendly, as well as being good for our nervous systems. What’s not to love?!✨
