Hummingbird || Stanley Park, Aug '25
There's usually a couple of elements that make a photo really striking to my eye.
The first obvious thing that hit me from this photo is the beautiful, warm backlighting. Shooting straight into the sun usually means a harder job following the subject and finding focus, but when it lights up the subject in this way, it's always worth the extra effort. The sunlight was falling directly on to the front element which is causing most of the soft glow in this photograph.
The other elements were in the small details. One being the shadow of the plant behind being imprinted on the Hummingbird's wing. It perfectly sums up how low the sun was and how dense the foliage was that the hummingbirds were flying between. The other being the two iridescent 'scales' on the neck, a little flash of colour that looked to me like a little bowtie 🙂
