Why should I pay that?
I had a conversation with a potential customer yesterday and they asked why they should pay the £15 I sell my Prints for.
They said they could take the same photo themselves and print it off for so much less.
I was a little offended at first to be completely honest but could see their point. I spent the next few minutes explaining why I need to charge what I do.
I only use the finest materials in my print production. This includes Martutt Archival quality Fine Art paper which is fully recyclable and does not fade for 100 years. Each sheet costs me approximately £5 to purchase.
My ink is genuine premium quality Epson Photo Ink and costs approximately £90 per full set. Each set lasts for about 60 Prints.
My Plastic Packaging is biodegradable as is my backing card.
Most importantly, where possible, all of my materials, like my photos, are manufactured locally. In the UK.
This doesn't even factor in kit costs like my camera, software subscriptions and Stall fees as well as insurance and admin costs.
Needless to say, being a small business, times can be tough and costs are high.
I sell my Prints at just enough to cover my costs and make a small profit, the objective of any successful business. I make approximately £2.50 profit from each print after all associated costs, hardly a princely sum.
