Blackstar Scotland are pleased today to announce that we have been appointed for a second year to the Forth Ultra hosted by Scurry Events.

The Forth Ultra was established in 2024 and is a 43 mile ultra marathon set around the stunning scenery of the Firth of Forth. Runners compete as solos or as teams to complete the distance and collect their well earned medal at the end.

We are grateful to Scurry Events for the invite back to what is shaping up to be another great event!

G2E takes place between Glasgow and Edinburgh, following the canal routes between the two cities, taking runners through the City of Glasgow, Kirkintilloch, Falkirk and over multiple aqueducts on the way to Saughton Park in Edinburgh where they cross the line and triumphantly claim their medal!.

The by is one of the longest, toughest and most unique running events in the UK, pushing a group of elite runners to their limits over mountainous terrain and rugged paths with only one hundred hours to complete the challenge and earn the coveted finisher buckle.

This year the international field of athletes were challenged by the high August heat over the four and a half days. As the media team, we also faced this challenge of ensuring that we kept ourselves hydrated and in good shape, while working our hardest to get the incredible shots that the runners love to see after their race.

Congratulations to both everyone who finished and everyone who started. It take a huge amount of training, hard work and dedication to prepare for these gruelling events.

Volunteers and staff are the un-sung hero's of all major events, none more so as The Open.

I spent two days at this years The Open golf at Royal Troon photographing the golfers practicing for what is considered one of the biggest golf competitions in the world. I made sure to also snap some photos of the people behind the scenes that make it all possible.

The race is done. Now for the photos.

After 12 hours of travel both ways, 26 hours of racing and 7 hours of editing. The Blackstar Scotland Skye Ultra photo collection are now available to view and download free of charge from our website.

Skye presented Blackstar with a new challenge which we have not dealt with during previous Ultras, tourists. Skye is an extremely beautiful destination which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world, photographing our runners while also avoiding getting tourists in our shots was a huge challenge. We wanted to showcase the remote and rugged landscape of the island in all its glory, to achieve this we combined the lightroom process with the new Photoshop AI generative fill tools to remove other subjects from images. My opinion on AI in photography is that it should be used as a tool to correct images in a constructive way. It should not be used to generate images to suit agendas or further harmful stereotypes.

Throwback to the utter scorcher that was Ultra Scotland 2023.

With heat reaching the mid 20s during the day, the weather proved not just a challenge for the athletes but for the support crews and media team. Sun cream was a good friend that day.

We cant wait for Ultra Scotland 2024 and hope for another day of good weather, maybe a bit cooler though!
