Thanks Arnup Studios - looking forward to it.

Lesley Peatfield, one of our Central artists is opening her studio doors in a weeks time for North Yorkshire Open Studios.

Lesley has a passion for photography and spends her spare time taking pictures, then making cards, coasters and prints. She loves making images of landscapes, abstracts, or whatever catches her eye. She’s following an abstract path of intentional camera movement (ICM), multiple exposure (ME) and some watercolour experimentation.

I love Kate’s work.

This is me in my studio, pictured during York Open Studios in April by (thanks Allan!).

There are so many things in the picture that I mean something to me (as well as quite a bit of mess and a gurning artist cluttering up the foreground!). The order of service for my dear friend Anna Harding, who I miss terribly, sits next to me as do some of the paintings I did of my friends' eyes during Lockdown (my Eye Contact project), to keep them close. The ’naive' wood carving is one that my grandfather did of a pilot. I reckon he must have looked in the mirror a lot as he carved as it looks just like him! As he trained pilots in WWII and loved to fly, he's positioned so that he looks to the sky through my roof-light. In front of Grandad is his 'A H Pettitt' name plate from his job at Warlingham Park Hospital. To his left are Harold and Hilda, my little anatomical models (Grandad wouldn't mind!) and the beautiful bird vase is by whose work I adore. At the top are some of my life drawings and the advertising sign from the wonderful old rope makers of Hawes that I found in a junk shop – I use it as a drawing board.

My working studio is personal space filled with things that I love and that inspire me.

Find me in the Gallery Studio, Arnup Studios, in the pretty village of Holtby, just outside York (YO19 5UA). I'll be open this weekend (6–7) and next weekend (13–14), 10am–5pm.

There is free parking on site and in the village and we're just a short stroll from the no. 10 bus stop. Cycle route 66 is close by too.

Some serious faces and concentration in the garden putting up a gazebo for this weekend’s open studios.
Come and see us at venue 7 - the gazebo is mainly for protection as we’re in the studio and the house.
