Last night was the Federation of European Photographers awards.
When I entered, I honestly didn’t think I’d make the final ten - as a newborn photographer competing in a broader portrait category, the competition is fierce.
So it was a genuine shock when I didn’t hear my name until 5th place was announced.
FIFTH…in the Federation of European Photographers portrait category!
The beehive image is the personal one. I have been working on it for well over a year and is based around an idea about community. It’s a composite of 10 images, each baby photographed individually and brought together into the final piece. The babies are mostly clients whose families kindly said yes when I asked, alongside a few from model calls.
Both the other two were both taken during client sessions - the grass wreath and the pumpkins both grown at my allotment - linking the time of year the babies were born with seasonal items in their images.
The Federation of European Photographers is Europe’s overarching body, representing over 50,000 professional photographers and artists from the qualifying associations within each member state. Each year it holds a European competition across 12 categories and genres, with an international awards ceremony - this year held in Reykjavik, Iceland. Thank you to the judges for your time and hard work.
Big thanks to Barrie from for encouraging me to enter, to Fiona for representing me on stage, to my amazing mum for knitting for me- she’s in each of those images ❤️ and to my amazing clients who put their trust in me with their babies and their memories ❤️ I couldn’t be more grateful.
