The Ultimate Escape: Why I’m Chasing the Horizon

Lately, I’ve noticed a massive surge in interest around a specific type of shot. Every time I post an image of a motorcycle riding away, disappearing into the distance, my inbox lights up. It is quickly becoming one of my most popular styles, and people keep asking me:

"Why that specific shot? What is it about the back of a bike that connects with so many people?"

I think the answer is simple: it encapsulates the pure, unfiltered freedom that only comes with riding.

When you look at a bike heading away down an open road, you aren’t just looking at a some random person on a machine.

You're looking at an invitation. It represents the noise of the modern world dropping away, leaving nothing but the immediate moment and the next bend. For me, it’s an instant reset button for the brain.

Clearing the Mind, One Bend at a Time.

We talk a lot these days about mental health and well-being, often looking for complex solutions to everyday burnout. But honestly? Sometimes the best therapy is a sunny day, a full tank of fuel and a winding road.

Riding demands your absolute focus. You can’t dwell on spreadsheets, emails, or life’s background static when you’re leaning into a corner. It forces a unique kind of mindfulness—a chance to dust off the mental cobwebs, breathe in the fresh air, and just be.

That’s exactly what people see when they look at these photos; they see an escape.
But that headspace only works if you're entirely dialed into the present. I heard a fantastic line recently that perfectly nails the mindset we all need to carry out there:

"It’s better to be 20 minutes late in this life than 30 years early for the next."

Riding gives us life, but it only works if we respect the road. Enjoy the pace, take in the curves, and most importantly, ride safe.

Frame the Feeling.

The weather right now is absolutely perfect. (Well, most of the time). Check the forecast - when the tarmac is dry, the hedges are green, and the roads are calling. So, stop putting it off: dust your bike off and get out there. And if you happen to spot me parked up on the roadside while you’re out chasing the horizon, give us a wave.

If luck is on your side, I’ll capture a shot of you doing what you love most. It’s a piece of absolute freedom you can hang on your wall—a perfect reminder during the dark, freezing depths of winter that better, warmer days are always just around the corner.

The bacon roll will live long in the memory - as will the wonderful bikes that went past - especially this beauty:

Today I’m outside Choppers cafe in Burbage catching bikes stopping at Cafe Number 102 in your Bike and Brew passport. Great tea, bacon rolls and rolling, sweeping bends!

Come and say hello - or slow down, give me a wave as you go past.

Ride safe!

The most common question I get asked when people stop and chat at the side of the road is "did you get me?". The answer is always the same - Probably. But some riders are much better at having their picture taken than others, so I thought I'd write a short blog on some tips and tricks to get the perfect shot of you on your bike from my point of view. Link is in the comments - feel free to share!

I think we got 95% of you. As always, there is a lot of editing that goes on and sometimes if there is a crowd of cars behind you then it is impossible to save the picture. Sorry if I didn't - but I am out and about every weekend and will get you next time. if you aren't here, your photo wasn't sharp enough for me to share.

Thanks for the support - it means the world,

Ride safe, Ed
