More from the Kalahari. The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is split between South Africa and Botswana and covers over 38,000 sqkm’s. The South African section is formed by two dry river beds The Nossob and The Auob they rise in the mountains east of Windhoek and fill a number of dams in Namibia but they are dry by the time they reach the border with South Africa. They will only flow after very heavy rains about once every hundred years. Whilst they are dry on the surface there is plenty of underground water to be found and this water enables all the life in the area.
